Peter George, the new Peter Who?
And now, from out of left field...
Echoes of Peter Taylor's selection years ago?
Cricket Australia's National Selection Panel (NSP) today confirmed South Australian fast bowler Peter George will be added to the Australian squad for Friday's first Test of the VB Tour of New Zealand.
Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris is currently suffering some side soreness following the completion of the one-day component of the tour. George has been added as a stand-by player for the first Test of the tour only.
Australian physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said:
"Ryan Harris reported some left side soreness after the fourth ODI of the current series against New Zealand. Since then he has improved significantly and has bowled at low intensity for the last two training days.
"However due to the inclement weather he was unable to bowl outdoors as planned today and therefore it is not clear if he will be available for the first Test match.
"The plan is he will bowl again outdoors tomorrow and hopefully be passed fit to play."
NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said:
"Peter George is an exciting young fast bowler who has a very good Sheffield Shield season with South Australia.
The NSP believes that should the opportunity arise, Peter has the skills to succeed at this level and will benefit greatly from being around the Australian set up."

George Bailey has a mean outswinger and a good offcutter?embee wrote:Peter Taylor is to Mark Taylor as Peter George is to George Bailey?
But I share JGK's incredulity at Copeland's "omission". Farkin Barrel bias.

sage point, Clearly the only reason for Damien Wright's omission.

If Wright bowls as well as he bats, the Banjos are in deep sh!t.

Should provide some humour late in both innings.
But Shirley Qunt M'Kay will get a run in front of George? So it's all academic?

If he were a Dubber he'd have been chosen to deputise for Clarke a week earlier
