Re: County Cricket Thread 2010
I guess they've abandoned the idea in recent seasons that the MCC side is made up of up-and-coming and fringe England players.
Or are we due another season of people tediously talking up Ramps as "due a recall"?

Re: County Cricket Thread 2010
Dean Cosker lived in Croft's shadow last season, but I can see him taking a further bagful this year.

Glamorgan and Northants play a Pro40 "friendly" on Monday.
The beeb didn't specify where it is being played though.

To be fair, Ramps was 'recalled' at least 14 times between 1991 and 2002 so he is probably due a recall soon...

Don't take it so literally, Dell, I just mean Croft is the most experienced spinner at Glamorgan.
As I said in the Derbyshire thread, we have three decent bowlers for the Four day stuff (Harris and Cosker [and Croft when fit]) and probably only Tait will make an impact during the T20 tournament.
Fark, we are doomed.

Got to have done. Unless 15 county off spinners suddenly got pigflu to let James Middlebrook get a gig.

Although if James Tredmill can play a Test match then Middlebrook can't be too far out of the reckoning.
Adil Rashid has now dropped down to fifth in the spin pecking order behind Graeme Swann, James Tredmill, Jeremy Snape and James Middlebrook.
Re: County Cricket Thread 2010
Dave Wainwright is the one to watch this season, i'd genuinely have picked him ahead of Tredwell.

He's nowhere near as talented as Rashid, i'm not saying Wainwright isn't a prospect because he could well go on and play for England but Adil is a better batsman, bowler and fielder.
Re: County Cricket Thread 2010
How's Rafiq rated?
Saw him for the England under 19s at their WC thingy. Looked reasonable.

Agreed, but seeing as England trust Rashid less than a hooker with a big cold sore on her lips.... i'd have given Wainwright a cap over Tredwell

Not seen enough of him to say. They are definitely trying to get him near the First team but unless Rashid or Wainwright get injured / England caps its hard to see how he'll get a chance.
One of the players from my cricket club (actually used to coach him a few years back) plays with him in the 2nds...

True. There is the secret ruling that England leg spinners must be utter gash. Salisbury had to keep working on his game to get worse and worse enough to earn 15 caps. Chris Schofield was so uncoordinated that he struggled to eat his dinner unassisted and he got picked.
Re: County Cricket Thread 2010
Apropos of nothing, Rafiq looks like an Asian Robert Earnshaw.
Hopefully he celebrates his wickets with the old forward-flip/matador dance thing too.

I'll give you a player to watch - Richard Jones. he got into our first XI towards the end of the season, and looks as if he's got something about him - gets the ball down in the mid 80s mph, with a tidy action and not the worst no. 8 or 9 either.

That's strange because I have always felt that Ajmal Shahzad looks a bit like an Asian Ian Holloway....
