Has Cricket Australia stuffed it again?
One of the highlights of the Australian Summer has - for years - been the back-to-back Tests at the MCG and SCG, with the added challenge of usually only a couple of days between them.
Then somewhere along the way, it was apparently set down that there has to be 3 days between matches, meaning that the Sydney Test now starts on Jan 3, meaning this summer's Test is scheduled to start on a Monday, and run through the week.
Yet, on India's forthcoming tour of South Africa, the 2nd Test there starts on Boxing Day, the 3rd Test on January 2nd.
So who has screwed up? Is it something CA has decided upon unilaterally? Or was t the result of some softcock negotiations? Or is CA following a rule and CSA & the BBCI have decided not to?

Yep Nath it is a public holiday.
I do recall a order coming from somewhere that there has to be a Three day break between tests, can't recall if it is a ICC directive or CA.

The Sydney test will still probably be sold out. It's started on January 3rd for the last three years, I think.

Global players' union or Australian?
Just wondering how many of the world's cricketers are softcocks.

Pretty much all of the players under 25 these days? Want everything handed to them on a plate and will trip over their own feet and break their leg if they don't have an army of coaches, psychologists, masseuses, and managers around pointing them in the right direction.

When I saw it was a Monday to Friday Test, I thought it was a pretty odd piece of scheduling by CA. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the Sydney Test has always had some part of a weekend near New Years Day as one of the days in the game.

Meh, on Friday I bought three tickets for the second day. They're not selling as quickly as they were in 06-07, but i'm pretty sure the first three days will still be sold out.

Re: Has Cricket Australia stuffed it again?
I'd be happy to see the Sydney Test start on the first Thursday or Friday after New Year's Day. That would see the match start on the 6th of January this year.
Starting on a Monday is a joke.
The Melbourne Test starts on a Sunday but Monday and Tuesday are both public holidays this year.
Sydney has a public holiday on the Monday then four work days. CA will only get away with this scheduling idiocy because it is an Ashes year.

Aye Hass, that's my memory of how the Test has traditionally been scheduled.Hass wrote:I'd be happy to see the Sydney Test start on the first Thursday or Friday after New Year's Day. That would see the match start on the 6th of January this year.

Re: Has Cricket Australia stuffed it again?
The Sydney Test used to start on January 2nd most of the time didn't it? It was one of the great challenges of world cricket, taking on Australia in the two biggest cricket stadia, on vastly different pitches, with bugger-all rest between the matches.

It has started on the 3rd for the last 2 years. For about the 10-12 years before that it started on the 2nd (even if the 2nd was a monday)

Re: Has Cricket Australia stuffed it again?
The Sydney Test has started on the 2nd more often than not over the past three decades.
Some exceptions include the change to a December Test back in 95/6 and 96/7 and a New Year's Day start in 1995 (with the Boxing Day Test starting on the 24th and including a rest day for Christmas).
However the precedent of playing on the first Thursday or Friday after New Year's Day has already been set. The most recent example was the Ashes Test of 1991, which started on Friday the 5th of January.

Yes, but that was just a coincidence. It also started on the 2nd.

Jeez, you're a glass half empty kind of guy aren't you.
I was going with the falling on the 2nd was the coincidence and the starting on a Thursday was planned

Oh, I see Horrie mentioned it in the Langer thread. Inexplicably I didn't think to look there first.

the dickhead who wrote that piece is a bit triggeredÂ
heard Shorten get triggered by it too
It would surprise me if CA dismissed this lady for the sole reason of her personal tweet
If they did they deserve the scorn in the article but surely you need to hear both sides before you go off like he has
