KP laughs at Buchanan the 'nobody'.
Seems as if Buchanan can't expect a Christmas card from Warnie's mate.

Who other than Langer, Gilchrist, Hayden, and possibly Ponting rates Buchanan as a coach?
One shudders to think how good Australia would have been from 1999 to 2007 if they'd had a half decent coach.

How much of the current malaise within Australian international cricket could we justifiably pin on Flanders? Where was his succession planning?

I don't think Gilly rated him. In his biography Gilly makes it clear he thought Buchanan was a quid short and never used to do the ridiculous "homework" that Flanders set. Apparently he and Warnie were the two biggest recalcitrants.Henry wrote:Who other than Langer, Gilchrist, Hayden, and possibly Ponting rates Buchanan as a coach?

I believe so, other than of course "Good areas" and "Bowled Warnie".

Any chance Bob Simpson can make a Lazarus like return to the coaching scene.
Okay so he may be 74 atm, but still light years ahead of what is currently there.

I think Simmo was a horses-for-courses type coach. He "fit" very well with AB (and his young, new team) as did Swampy with Tubby and Flanders with SRW. I think Drunky is prolly a bit too pig-headed to be coached by a Simmo type.

Sadly you have a good point, but OTOH if it means Drunky steps aside as captain... come back Simmo!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Moody would be a good choice as Aussie coach.

Erm, he's better than Nielsen for a start. And he did a good job with Sri Lanka. And he just seems like a level headed guy who can make calm, clear decisions.

Rags failed dismally at the Warriors in his most recent appointment. But I won't argue against the point of him being a better coach than Nielsen.

Moody's "failings" at the Warriors were the same that they had under Dunny ...I dont blame the coaches entirely

frommie - can this post be removed to the impending death of Oz cricket thread?...if simmo was appointed it would be the final nail in the coffin

Coffin is already nailed shut and buried six foot under.

having simmo rolling around on top of the grave with his son in law Hildy would add insult to fatal injury

Any possibility the increasingly Harveyesque Chappell the elder may have this one right (insert blind squirrel and acorn analogy here if you want) - at this level the coach is a negligible factor at most?

I don't know how much a good coach can improve a team, but I'm pretty sure a bad coach can completely stuff one up.

hmnn...agree with that...have seen no evidence to suggest the current Oz bloke is a good coach

England don't even have a coach anymore. Andy Flower's official title is 'Director of cricket for the England team'.

Even Buchanan buggered off from the Oz team a good few years before the rot set in. The blokes who liked him took on board whatever they thought he had to offer, the others who thought he was a complete waste of space (eg Warne) mainly just ignored him.

Trying to coach Warnie is actually the height of arrogance. A bit of life coaching may have been in order though.
