some observations - 1st morning - last day
I watched an intriguing and tense finale to a test match...no it was not the average v the less than ordinaire (ie poms v Oz)....but the last day of the saffies v the bannies...
I made the following obs -
1 good to see a tense match
2 technology must always be used - AB DV and Boucher were gunned outrageously on lbw's that were nowhere near the stumps - this may have affected the result
3 I admire Zaheer Khan...he was the one Bannie bowler not to have zinc cream covering his face...both harbi and the Banshree regularly applied the suncream from their face to the ball...kudos to that man for playing an honest game.
4 Banshree's bowling improved in the course of each over as the layers of cream were applied to the ball

one final observation was that there was at the most 500 spectators in the crowd...no matter how carp the OZ team and its fondness for selecting blonde haired blue eyed NSW players who are carp at cricket but ace at kfc ads, Victorians will continue to flock to the MCG...Australia must never play a Boxing Day Test in SA

India would probably still have won, but it is a shame when a result is slightly tarnished by bad umpiring that can now easily be averted.
I hope either the ICC make it mandatory for the UDRS to be used or alternatively India get about 6 or 7 shockers in their next series (not in this series, want to see a good last test match) that makes them have a change of heart in time for the England series.

Still can't fathom in this day and age why the UDRS is not made compulsoury for all Test Matches, then I realise while the BCCI hold such power with the ICC it will never happen.

also curious that only the vile harbi and Banshree felt the need to use copious amounts of zinc cream on their faces - which then 'mysteriously disappeared from their faces.
there will never be an inquiry or bannings but I do not believe the Bannies should be allowed to play test cricket until they clean up their act..
btw agree that the bannies would prolly have won the 2nd test without the extreme howlers from the Umps and the blatant cheating from harbi and banshree

it is a great pity that wonderful and admirable players like Laxman, Sehwag, Dravid and Tendy have to endure the antics of the BCCI and some of their fellow players...I hope history does not tarnish their reps by guilt from association

There was an interesting article in the SMH a few weeks ago saying that the company behind the Hot Spot technology is contemplating withdrawing their product from use in the UDRS because the ICC and national boards refuse to pay any money for it. The technology was originally designed for use in TV broadcasts and currently networks foot the bill, but not all networks are willing to pay for it.
It won't be in the world cup because there are only four cameras.

Given the number of howlers that have been unable to be reviewed in recent Tests involving India, and India's reluctance to come on board for the DRS, I wonder if there's something corrupt going on, where the umpires are getting paid to make decisions that favour India.horace wrote:2 technology must always be used - AB DV and Boucher were gunned outrageously on lbw's that were nowhere near the stumps - this may have affected the result
And fair enough too, anyone who wants to use the system should pay something towards it.Clutch wrote:There was an interesting article in the SMH a few weeks ago saying that the company behind the Hot Spot technology is contemplating withdrawing their product from use in the UDRS because the ICC and national boards refuse to pay any money for it. As the 1996 World Cup took until at least 2006 to pay the bills it owed, would you be willing to supply anything to the 2011 version?
And since the 2010 Comm Games, suppliers galore have been coming out and saying they haven't been paid, or they've had equipment impounded/lost/confiscated.

Presumably India will want the system when they next come to Australia. After all, it will save them from all those dreadful decisions they always cop here.
(please can Steve Bucknor have his very own monogrammed 3rd umpire's chair?)

I don't believe they use the sound from the stump mics for the DRS. How will the 3rd umpire hear Harbi being a racist qunt?

The constant obnoxious weedery would be too much for the poor TV ump to bear.
