England player emerges from the closet
Here
Being gay could add some nice extra dimension to a keeper's sledging...

Bit unfair Vilks, the title was a bit misleading, but Mynah have a look here.

Re: England player emerges from the closet
I always like to add a disclaimer when I post a news story like this, something like "I don't give a f**k if it's been posted elsewhere, if you put a stupid thread title then you should expect it to be repeated".
So whilst I did mock, I actually agree with taips *shudder*.

Fair play to the man, although admitting you play for Surrey would be far more difficult than coming out as gay.
Not that there's anything wrong with either mind you. I'm Surrey and proud.

Under the new totalitarian regime, surely an admission like that is quite risky?
Off to the gulags (or Wales) with you ...
Re Davies ... why does it matter? ... why has he made an announcement?

Presumably it is better to jump than be pushed by a redtop.
It may not be news to us, but it's feed for sharks.

I think Steve Davies does a pretty good job of answering that himself.
"To speak out is a massive relief for me, but if I can just help one person to deal with their sexuality then that's all I care about."
"I feel it is right to be out in the open about my sexuality. If more people do it, the more acceptable it will become. That must be a good thing."
Life in the closet in the pits. A public figure will still feel the suffocating effects of the closet to some extent unless they are out to the press. Tabloids will conduct whispering campaigns saying x was seen at a gay bar and make out that the person is a closet case with something to be ashamed of.
Well, Steve Davies is saying "I am not ashamed". It is important for his own self-esteem and is important for thousands upon thousands of boys out there who like both cricket and guys. Now they can see Davies and think "I am not alone".
Sport can be - or at least appear to be - pretty homophobic at times. Having someone like Steve Davies go public helps break down those barriers.
