Broad ruled out of the rest of World Cup
This may have been mentioned already. Haven't bothered to look. FFS, this is a big blow. Seems like since he was sent away by the ECB to do strengthening work to help prevent injury a couple of years ago, he's become more injury prone.

Ah well, it's not like we were going to win the thing.

Re: Broad ruled out of the rest of World Cup
Was mentioned as a possibility on the WC thread, but not confirmed.
Yes, it is a blow.... because he's been a good one day bowler and can bowl match changing spells. Makes keeping Tremlett out there and getting him used to the conditions a wise move. You would think he would have to play v the Banglas given the next important match for England will be the Quarter Final.
As you say more worrying is his long term fitness. 2 tours in a row he's pulled out from - thankfully doesn't seem to be in the same area, more the side rather than the front.

I wonder if England will call up another non playing tourist to replace Trembles. Probably Steve Finn?

I don't reckon they'll have the guts to open with Swann. More likely it will be Matt 'out trying to cut a full toss' Prior again.

Nice...... Not sure thee and me have ever had the same XI. Makes sense, Yardy's a gasher batsman and bowler than Colly, we won't even compare their fielding.

Who cares, they're all a bunch of chumbawhumba. One and the same.
Re: Broad ruled out of the rest of World Cup
Anderson, Tremlett, Bres the pacemen,Swann the spinner, Collys cutters the 5th..... and Bops/Trott if needed as the 6th.
My proviso on that side is that Colly doesn't come in higher than anyone else above him on that list.
Agree with Mudge though, a Captain cautious led side will never open with Swanny. Personally I don't think we have anything to lose by trying it, but of course we'll go back to Prior (again)

Any slim chance we had of winning the WC - just flew out of the window. KP's loss we could cover, but Broad? - no way.

Aye, either Colly is still out of nick or is now permanently past it at this level. Either way, i'd back him over Yardy to pull out a 40 off 20 balls from number 7 or 8 or a stunning catch.

Aye, Yardy's got one gear until he's faced 50 balls, then he needs the powerplay just to get it to the boundary.
Re: Broad ruled out of the rest of World Cup
I get the feeling that Yardy goes into every innings with the mindset of "I'll bat it out for a draw".

If there was one player in that squad I would wish a side strain on, it would be Yardy.

To be fair to him, not even a martian would select him for his batting. He has plainly got the nod because of his T20 bowling... or should I say darting.

And that is of (very) limited value. I know we beat SA, but that pitch - and others we will probably play on was crying out for a specialist spinner to bowl in tandem with Swann.

Might as well sacrifice Sussex as the opener, though, as he might come off once (and only once) and is providing f*ck all down the order.
Bops and Morgan five and six looks a nice "finishing" combo.
Re: Broad ruled out of the rest of World Cup
Prior has no plan at the top of the order though. Seems to just play it by the numbers. "Four dot balls. Oh sh*t, i'd better play a big shot this next ball." You'd think that either Strauss or Flower would have sat down with him and discussed what he's trying to achieve at the top of the order. Might need a bit more than "Go out there and play your natural game, Matty".
Just needs to bat and play the ball on its merits, like he does in the tests. He naturally scores quickly without having to take low percentage risks all the time.

More likely overtraining a not-very-robust frame.
A touch of the Bruce Reids.
