5 wickets in an over
Happened for the first time in FC cricket over the weekend by a Kiwi called Wagner.
FOW was: 5-136 (Rhodes, 69.1 ov), 6-136 (Austin-Smellie, 69.2 ov), 7-136 (Patel, 69.3 ov), 8-136 (Tugaga, 69.4 ov), 9-136 (Gillespie, 69.6 ov)
Scorecard here: http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/304/304683.html
It also seems at one stage that Wagner took 9 wickets across the 2 innings for 0 runs and off about 41 balls.

Incredible! 41 balls without a run scored is an achievement, let alone the 9 wickets. Still, if you're getting the likes of Austin-Smellie out...

I wonder if his nickname was "Pull my finger"?

Can't have been a good nick, whatever it was.
Incredible, Wagner's achievement. If only he could bowl to Strauss.

Re: 5 wickets in an over
Except for the four times it's happened previously, including by Yasir Arafat, for Rawalpindi against Faisalabad in 2004, and by Pat Pocock for Surrey against Sussex in 1972.JGK wrote:Happened for the first time in FC cricket over the weekend by a Kiwi called Wagner.

Amazing stuff
Similar thing happened in M Aamer's over in the T20 WC LAST year but 2 were run outs.

Re: 5 wickets in an over
Just got online and was about to mention Surrey/Sussex. I think it did involve run-outs but also five wickets in six balls. Should probably also involved a match fixing committee but I think cricnfo have a seperate link for it highlighted in their stats section.

Just checked and Pollocks was done over two overs, but it was five in six (amongst other records). The runout was the last ball of the match.

Re: 5 wickets in an over
So by similar you mean almost completely different in that it was five wickets in an over by one bowler in a first class match compared to three wickets and two run outs in an over in a t20 slogfest?PlanetPakistan wrote:Amazing stuff

Not to those games, but have linked to the BBC story which said it in my next post (top of this page)
And ABC News 24 (for what that's worth) was saying this morning he was the fifth bloke to do it.
I'm sure one of teh stats engine drivers here will find it.

I am pretty sure one of the 5 wickets in the Pocock over was a run out.

Blame the BBC then, don't shoot the messenger.
I've looked it up on Cricket Archive now and it says...

So the BBC was wrong.--> PI Pocock completed five wickets in six balls in the Sussex second innings (Parks, Prideaux, Griffith, Morley, A Buss)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pocock's penultimate over was w.w2.w
The final over (with Sussex needing 5 to win was bowled by Pocock and was www1ww - the final wicket being a run-out
Pocock set three world records - 5 wickets in 6 balls (equalling Copson in 1937), 6 wickets in 9 balls, and 7 in 11.

There's still three other quoted examples that you could check.
