The panel now consists of: Professor Johan Coetzee, Gerald Majola (CSA CEO), Andy O’Connor (CSA Cricket Committee Chairman), Boeta Dippenaar (SA Cricketers’ Association representative), Andrew Hudson (CSA selection convener) and Corrie van Zyl (head coach, CSA High Performance Centre)."

Well, he's there in an official capacity. Just because he was one of the most crabby of batsmen doesn't mean he can't represent players.
