Bopara
Bopara is accumulating some very unusual test stats.
He has a total of 509 runs in 16 innings at a tick oner 31 ... and that includes 3 centuries!
This got me thinking about other players who may have made a very high proportion of their runs in a very small percentage of their Test innings.
I can't think of any others off the top of my head who have scored so many bulls-eyes whilst otherwise missing the board totally. Stats nerds?

Re: Bopara
Similar pattern, not quite as concentrated, I suspect ... happy to be proved wrong.
One of Bopara's centuries was 143 ... I assume some 350 of his 509 runs came in 3 of his 16 innings. That doesn't leave much in his other 13 ...

Skulls made the same point about Woody (I) the other day.
Century or bust. Usually bust. With a run-out of his partner to boot.

Re: Bopara
Jack Badcock had a funny test career.
12 innings, 1 century, next highest score 9
... and he was a specialist batsman.

Chavi Flops' centuries have all been against the West Indies. He barely averages double figures against other teams. A bit like Anthony McGrath looking like a quality player against Zimbabwe...

Re: Bopara
2 of those were in pretty easy conditions too.
I was there at Lords to witness his 143, which was a decent innings as it held our innings together.

Re: Bopara
Bill Edrich, in his first 11 Test innings in 9 Tests (although he did not bat in his 7th Test) against Australia and South Africa from 1938-9 (all of which were consecutive - the England selectors displaying great faith and patience in him), occupying various positions in the batting order from opener to No.7, made scores of 5, 0, 10, 12, 28, 12, 4, 10, 0, 6 & 1 giving him an aggregate of just 88 runs@8.00.
However in his 12th innings, the fourth innings of the "Timeless" Test at Durban in March 1939, he went in at No.3 (having batted at 6, below Les Ames, in England's 1st innings), England having been set the small matter of 696 to win, and scored 219, falling to a catch by the recent centenarian, Norman Gordon, departing when the England score was 447-3. A further stand of 164 between Wally Hammond and Eddie Paynter took the score to 611-4.
Although they were both subsequently dismissed, with Ames, who had topscored in the 1st innings with 84 and the Kent all-rounder, Bryan Valentine, still at the crease there appeared to be every likelihood that England would secure what had appeared to be an impossible target.
Sadly, the shipping schedules intervened and the game had to be abandoned as a draw with England 42 runs short of the winning post. Nevertheless, despite WWII and service in Bomber Command (in which he won the DFC) intervening, Edrich's place as England's regular No.3 was secure for almost the rest of his career, apart from his last series in 1953 when he opened with Hutton.
