That is truly bizarre. I saw that picture and thought that is [ Mr A ]. Then I read your comment and thought 'have I made a faux pas?'. I checked and I double checked, and thought no, it is definitely [ Mr A ]. I've definitely got it right. Then I re-read my answers and saw that I had put that it was [ Mr K ]. Despite me never thinking it was him. Bizarre.
I don't think that would stand up in court however.
Baz - numero ocho, I have no idea, that was a guess. Some brylcreamed 20's superstar by the look of him.

- Spoiler:
- Ok, I'm stumped on the tasche'd Saffer. Brian Macmillan? Procter? Did Fanie ever have facial hair? Is 8 Larwood or someone of his era?
I believe you Gary. That is bizarre though.

I do believe you're right on 8. Good spot.
Did Fanie ever have facial hair? Not before a night out on the town.
Regarding my altered post, I can only assume its some internet hacker trying to undermine me. Probably the same bloke behind wikileaks.

Massive guess, based on your answer and Bas' retort.
How many levels of smut should I read into that sentence? Whotf is it?
I'm in the wrong era, clearly. Fanie looks very smooth.

I think Dennis Amiss was telling the story in that doco.
Anyway, here is another discussion on the incident

What is it about cracks to the nuts that make us laugh like hyenas?
The funniest thing I've seen playing sport happened playing cricket in the bush. I was in a team of teenagers playing second or third grade against a team of grown up oiks. My younger brother was bowling (quickish & could get one to jump & get big very fast) against this fat, moron, mouth with pads and no box. The mouth top edged one over second slip for six went into verbal overdrive. You know what happened next. They bought out a tractor with a carryall on the front to carry the howling piece of shite off the ground. Hilarious!

Re: Picture Quiz 6: "Quick Actions"
Sorry 'bout the late return (as mentioned in first post on the thread).
Here are all your CORRECT answers:
Gaz: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 .... and eventually - with help from Jill and your collective unconscious: 2.
Jill: 2 and then 8.
Wally: 8. 9, 12, 14, then 13. (No mistakes at all.)
embee (coming to it anew): 1, 2, 5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 16-18, 20.
On 3: Middle initial is H not O, unless I am missing something cryptic here. And I can't understand your answer to 4 - seems like the epithet for #3 again.
The only one not so far correctly guessed is #15. Anyone for this? Then I will put up a full list of answers.

All answers.
With some lengthy sanctimonious lectures, and clips.
With some lengthy sanctimonious lectures, and clips.
- Spoiler:
- 1. Wesley Hall (flailing arms!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6-Cj0f1htc
2. Wasim Akram. (Back foot about to point "the wrong way")
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HP3xHJ5RTk&feature=related
3 Frank Tyson
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/8073582.stm
http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=38954 < may not seem so fast, but watch the speed of that low arm! (The other bowler is the smoother, more "Pidgelike" Brian Statham)
4 a young and dangerous Denis Lillee, "v World XI 71-72"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW83dL0D334&feature=related
5 Mikey Holding aka "Whispering Death", "@ The Oval 1976" - arm speed!:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loYyJllsj68&feature=related
6 John Snow, the Byronic John Snow as Arlott called him (a dark brooding menace, disdainful for authority, and bloody dangerous, in other words. Also a poet.) Wiki: The highlight of Snow's Test career was the tour of Australia in 1970-71 where he was easily the best bowler of either side, taking 31 wickets (22.83) to help England regain The Ashes. He was repeatedly warned over his short-pitched bowling, but the Australians had no real answer to Snow's pace and fire.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoP335BBFPU&NR=1
7 Mike Procter (leading foot!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9WKSiG4qdA&NR=1
8 Harold Larwood. (Scary beady eye!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwL1VOBG6Vo&feature=related
9 Brian Statham. Famously straight and accurate ("If they miss - I hit"). 252 Test wickets @ under 25. "I'm not going to run in 30 yards and watch a batsman shoulder arms - it's a waste of energy." Posed photo, but shows the high arm and relaxed, relentless action.
10 Ray Lindwall, "@ The Oval 1953". (I couldn't find a good picture of Miller.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jytbc4AQdA&feature=related
11 Anderson Montgomery Everton Roberts, leader of the first set of dominant WIndian express quartets from the mid-1970s. (Wiki: Imran Khan once described a ball bowled to him by Andy Roberts as the fastest and most terrifying he had ever faced. ...One of his trademarks was the use of two different bouncers. One was delivered at a slower pace and often dealt with quite easily by the batsman. However, this was a ploy by Roberts to lull the batsman into a false sense of security. ... ( )
12 False Thomson (Alan "Froggy" ..). Delivering "off the wrong foot", but without the success of Procter. Bewildered MCC at first.
13 True Thomson (Jeff aka Thommo), 1975
Wiki: Taking a relatively short run up to the crease, Thomson generated his pace with a slinging-style bowling action, clearly influenced by his former competitive javelin throwing. ... [John Benaud:] "So Thommo begins - the high-stepping gait of a thoroughbred, bowling hand bobbing at waist level and the ball visible. It is conventional and comforting because facing a strange bowler for the first time invariably generates edginess. Then, in the split-second before delivery, at gather, Thommo drags one leg behind the other in a sort of Swan Lake crossover, sways back and hides the ball behind his right knee - unconventional and very unsettling." ... Or according to Thomson: "I just roll up and go whang".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8tFgtzeA2M
14 Garth Le Roux
cricinfo: Aggressive and in-your-face, he possessed a good bouncer which he used liberally, and was a hard-hitting tailender. ... He showed what might have been in 15 "Tests" for South Africa against rebel touring sides, taking 59 wickets at 23.06.
15 a young Richard Hadlee in 1973, without the trademark tache
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRluAShb5w0&feature=related
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLBuB4WUoUI
16 Heath Streak - Zim's other ledge!
17 Charlie Griffith - What was all the fuss about? Looks a fine straight arm to me.
18 Kapil Dev, 1989. Typical "hugging" style before delivery.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNCVBI5GQBE&feature=related
19 a young Fred Trueman, at Chelmsford 1951. Smooth and deadly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4QrIdBG1yM&feature=related
20 JK Lever @ Lord's 1979 - well, ya can't leve him out, canya?
