Wrecked by pace. I should've seen it. It's a good attack, this WI line-up. I'm actually forward to seeing how we go against them on our pitches. I suspect we'll just about outbat them.
Re: Bangladesh v West Indies, 2nd ODI, Dhaka, 15 October, 2011
The Windies haven't won a test in England since 2000. And even then they lost the series. I don't have high hopes of a close, enthralling contest....

When there's some decent pace, utilising our conditions, it's a closer contest. For example, Pak 2010. OK, their batting line up wasn't good, the same with WI, which is why we'll probably win. But they might take a Test off us. Probably the second most challenging pace attack out there, after SA.
Re: Bangladesh v West Indies, 2nd ODI, Dhaka, 15 October, 2011
I assume you are not counting England in your ratings of pace attacks?
Rampaul has developed into a class performer, Edwards when fit is dangerous, Roach has potential but needs to start kicking on, Russell has promise, and Sammy is medium paced gash unless it's a green top under cloudy skies.
Rating pace attacks, i'd go-
England
South Africa
Pakistan
Australia
then maybe the Windies.

England's pace I put a tidge behind SA. Then WI. Reason being I'd back Sammy, Rampaul and Roach to utilise our conditions better than most. I'd stick Aus third overall, but not in our conditions. Pak would be 5th either way, totally different line-up without Asif and Amir.
Re: Bangladesh v West Indies, 2nd ODI, Dhaka, 15 October, 2011
Gul and Riaz are pretty useful, and they're always likely to pull some 90mph wonderkid out of the hat to support them. It's why i'm backing them to beat Sri Lanka in their test series starting next week,

They're more likely to produce some better bowling performance than SL ATM, but then, so are NZ so it's hardly an accolade....
Re: Bangladesh v West Indies, 2nd ODI, Dhaka, 15 October, 2011
Well, after being 3 for 1 and 4 for 18, I suppose 7-170 after 43 overs is fair.

South Africa's first choice pace attack is probably better than ours, but our strength in depth is ridic at the moment. If South Africa's two best pace bowlers (Morkel and Steyn obviously) were injured and our two best were also injured then our attack would f**k theirs royally.Brass Monkey wrote:England's pace I put a tidge behind SA. When you add Swanny into the mix then overall I think I'm happier with our bowling attack.

I think we have bowlers who are as good as Morkel and better than Tsotsobe. Only Steyn is better than any of our current lot and even then, I don't think Steyn could have bowled any better than Jimmy did in the ashes.

I'd still pick Steyn over Jimmy every time though. Can't really argue with having the 3rd highest strike of all time.
And I'd pick Morkel over any of our other bowlers at the moment, though if Broad pushes on from the Indian series and Bressy lad does well overseas then that might change. Same goes for Trembles.
After Morkel and Steyn though we really sh!t on them. It's mental after their recent performances that one of Bresnan or Tremlett won't be in the next test (assuming everyone is fit). I don't think there is a team in the world that either of them wouldn't fit straight into and we are going to have to leave one of them out.
Seriously good times.

If JT proves his fitness over the next domestic season we could be in for some fun times pace bowling wise. There is also Shannon Gabriel who has been given a central contract. He's tall, strongly built and fast, rather like Ian Bishop was pre-back injury.
Of course we have Bishoo as well who is going to be an outstanding leggie so we have pretty much stumbled upon a World Class bowling attack.
Pity the batting is so sh!thouse. We need Kraigg Braithwaite, Bravo and Barath to develop ahead of their time if we are to rise up the rankings.

Aye, I feel for you guys. For years it's been the bowling that has let you down and the batting was the only thing saving respectability. Looks like the reverse is going to happen now.WIFAN wrote:If JT proves his fitness over the next domestic season we could be in for some fun times pace bowling wise. Cheers, I've been lurking occasionally, just not posting .
Well we still have Shiv I suppose who has a certain affinity with English bowling, and Samuels has looked class since his return. Otherwise our batting does look really inexperienced, and we will almost certainly be touring England with a batting lineup including 3/4 top order batters who have never played cricket there.

WIFAN, do you think Gayle will play for the Windies again? It's been six months now and it seems as if they have virtually given up trying to resolve their differences.
Also, less publicly, it seems like Dwayne Bravo has fallen out of favour with the WICB and vise versa as well.

I think Gayle has completely fallen out with Otis Gibson as well as the WICB. As long as Otis is coach I very much doubt we will see Gayle playing. I would love to be proven wrong though. Ther eis a big emphasis on youth and fitness in the new regime so I think youngsters will get their chance before Gayle or Sarwan are recalled.
Bravo is more likely to play, he's actually been left out for form reasons rather than anything else (plus we have to have Sammy in the team as he's captain and so there is no room for the two of them).

Congrats to the Windies on sealing the series already. No surprises, I guess, but a win is a win.

Bangladesh is probably gonna struggle in this new ODI format. WIth a new ball being used from each end it means that the ball never gets above 25 overs and it will be hard to get much spin and Bangladesh is solely dependent on their spinners at the moment.
