Sandusky Scandal

Any of you lot heard about this? I was at Penn State last year and so I've been following it closely, seems to be big news throughout the US. If you've managed to remain blissfully ignorant, a football coach was, allegedly, behaving unspeakably towards little boys and there was a bit of a cover-up, leading to the sacking of the college president and the legendary Joe Paterno (to illustrate the regard he was held in, there was a huge painting in one of the common rooms of my dorm that, seemingly without irony or self-consciousness, recreated Da Vinci's last supper with Paterno and his football player disciples). Sounds like it's been pretty crazy over there, full fledged riots etc...

Oh, I was going to post a link to an interview that's one of the more excruciating things I've heard recently, but it seems I'm not allowed for a few days. If you're interested, you can find it fairly easily, it was with some chap called Bob Costas who looks like he can scarcely believe what he's hearing -

'Costas asked Sandusky, “Are you sexually attracted to young boys, to underage boys?”

“Am I sexually attracted to underage boys?” Sandusky repeated, perhaps not hearing Costas.

“Yes.”

After a too-long pause, Sandusky said, “Sexually attracted? You know, I enjoy young people. I love to be around them. But no, I’m not sexually attracted to young boys.”'

Unbelievable.

Mercifully I escaped entirely unmolested, never have I been more thankful for my complete and devastating lack of any kind of sporting talent.

Glad to hear it, Spinky. About the lack of molestation, mainly. Did you do a 'year out' or a postgrad, or something entirely different?

I managed to do the third year of my (four year) degree out there on an exchange year, had an amazing time. I am genuinely shocked this sort of thing happened there, though, if only because the authorities seemed incredibly eager to stop anyone having any kind of sex at all. Pennsylvania is so repressed. Come to think of it, though, some spotty freshman did get caught filming girls in the shower in our dorms, so maybe it's something in the water.

Wikipedia says he has 6 adopted children and fostered more. God only knows what fresh hell they all went through over the years. I hope someone is investigating.
