What's the current situation with the telecast rights? The board don't seem to be have announced much officially and I haven't been able to watch the Ranji trophy since the dispute started, yet the channel (Neo) have shown highlights of old Ranji matches and India matches.

Re: Indian fans
I think this is probably the first thread in FB history that has the words "Indian fans" in the title and was not followed by an opening post expressing derision towards said fans.

Can't be critical as I'm an Indian fan of cricket myself.

I think telecast rights will go to Neo again even if it means intervention from SC. On going tussle between Neo and BCCI is just shadow boxing between the 2.

Re: Indian fans
The problem is the interim period, I like to watch the Ranji trophy and because of this dispute, live telecast has been suspended.
Thing is that I don't expect either party to rush into lodging a case with the SC (if anyone, Nimbus sports may try) due to the lack of home series over the course of the next few months. If the BCCI allegations are fully true, then there's not much chance of Nimbus getting a renewed contract.
I'll say this, if in the end the BCCI lobby for Rupert Murdoch's channels then there's more to this dispute than has been revealed. After all, let's not forget it was the fact that Zee's telecast rights were rescinded, due to some board members lobbying for ESS, that led to the start of the ICL. Again, we can't write this off as Srinivasan is a general thunderqunt and the MPs (and ministers) could do their primary job, some of whom (like Rajiv Shukla) failed abysmally yesterday.

no one can go straight to the SC. they have to go to the HC first
i would be happy if it went to ESS. neo sucks balls

Yeah, but there is the right to appeal and it ends up with the SC all the time. Realistically speaking.
Unless of course the HC just gives directives instead of a judgement.
ESS is just as sh!te as Neo for my mind.

Re: Indian fans
Don't think so. Yes, Shastri and Sunny could be idiots but their telecast as well as their pre and after match shows are far better than what Neo offers. Plus, ESS doesn't forego at least a ball in each over.ESS is just as sh!te as Neo for my mind.
Also, I just don't like that stupid Neo's anchor, who says particular in almost every sentence he utters.

Is there any chance the IPL won't be broadcast?

Re: Indian fans
Yes. It's going to be heard in Feb and the case is likely to be disposed off in the HC in that period as well. It's got appeal written all over it, thankfully for the casual India fan, there's not much international cricket in India. I can't see Rajasthan lose another bunch of matches.
RK is a ledge, he's particularly so bad that he's good. Neo does get some rubbish as "experts". I think the awful Shivaramakrishnan would be in the commentary team at ESS if they get the rights.

Sadly the IPL will be broadcast. The IPL sells its rights independent of other BCCI events and that goes to Sony Entertainment television.taipan wrote:tricycle wrote:What's the current situation with the telecast rights? Re: Indian fans
the commentary is terrible on all. star at least has much better production values and more importantly does not cut out the first and last ball of each over
though with neo now on HD i get a no-ads telecast

Re: Indian fans
Hopefully not. Shiva has to be the worst commentator along with Chandrashekar (in Ranji cricket).
No HD for me, ads pretty much every ball. Ten cricket had the worst ads during the South Africa India series, I think.
Did you guys see the Rajya Sabha proceedings yesterday? I saw around 10 hours of it and had to puke at Rajniti Prasad and RJD's miniscule MP coterie's antics. Lost time that will never come back. Worst bit was that 'twas actually a good discussion till then.

Karnataka are sh!tting it at 6/99. Noice. The other hegemonic giants Mumbai are going well unfortunately.

Re: Indian fans
balwinder sandhu? thats quite a blast from the past
seems he took a 5-fer on debut as well. we probably need it since our bowling looks the weakest it has in years! the batting unrecognisable as well with jaffer the only old hand. no muzumdar, kukreja, rahane, sharma, nayar...
a semi-final spot should be a given. but another title will need some luck

Re: Indian fans
Karnataka vs Mumbai is a farking beauty so far. Thank goodness for a possible greentop? Farking BCCI, I don't know and I want to see the match. Weather would have played its part, must have been 15C, after a frigid night, if they started at 9.30am.
Balwinder Sandhu's debut 5fer was quite big news in the papers in Mumbai. Quite a late starter, he is.
MP has a good and young bowling lineup and have won two matches so far. Only Mumbai have won more and how TN led their group is just baffling bs.
Is Agarkar collecting his pension nowadays?

agarkar had a bit of a tiff with the mca last month. was made to fly to assam as a replacement and felt harshly treated when he was not picked in the final xi, being a 'senior' and all that
i wonder what happened to salvi as well. i cant relate to any of these new kids

Aye, it should be good in the long run that Mumbai don't depend on ancient history players.
Come on farking cricinfo, if you have Indian journalists and scorers then get them off their arses and send them to the matches.

1 possible result match in the quarter finals and the others all will be won on the first innings lead and I wonder why the Ranji trophy never makes an impact among fans in India.

3 possible result matches. bombay and rajasthan could both win by an innings and haryana may well have a low 4th innings chase

Mumbai will win as MP's batting is shite. Hyderabad are useless, not even worth considering as a QF team. Karnataka Haryana's turning into a nice tight match.
TN 350/7, outside chance but Maharashtra aren't the best around.

Lookie here, three good comebacks but the matches are already dead. Stupid first innings rules, Mumbai could just have benefitted from the fact that they didn't have to face the new ball in cold Indore mornings. Hyderabad and MP

semis time
tn a steady 77/1 vs bombay so far
rajasthan a lot more precariously placed at 27/4
