No takers for England's last 3 spinners? One has the same name as a member of the present side, one was the last over-40 to play for England, the third came from God's own county although as an import.

Neither but you are warm with Marks as one of the bowlers did partner him in Tests. Meant God's own county. Apologies.

If it was God's own country it had to be an imported Saffie.

Nope, he came from further down the MI via the M6. A veteran when he moved but only got the selectorial nod after he moved to Trent Bridge.

Grouse day of international cricket here. THe JAMODI went from 12.30am to 9am, the Snoozie-Saffie Test started at 9am to 4pm and not this one starts at 4pm and will finish around 11.30.
Almost round the clock international cricket. The way it should be too.

The match was more notable for a famous, or infamous, on-field altercation.

Indeed with Shakoor Rana, the bowlers concerned were Cook, Hemmings and Emburey here:

Sanga's 2nd first-baller in Tests - previous one v. WI at Colombo in July 2005.

And that game in 2005 would have been against a Windies 3rd XI because of the players v Board dispute.

Don't see the point of three spinners. Unless they're a full hand of OS, SLA and LB - for total variety.
Patel's left-arm darts are just a very poor, square-bodied man's Monty Panesar. Are England saying Monty can't bowl 25 overs a day? A spinner needing a relief bowler? Come on.
If they were serious about a fifth bowler being a wicket threat, they should've gone with Bresnan and pushed Prior up a place. Patel offers barely more than Pietersen with the ball.

Oh dear, the worst of all cricketing dismissals, a non-striker's end parried run out. Sama gone.

A little harsh perhaps as despite the absentees the Windies fielded a reasonable side including Chanderpaul, who skippered, and the late Runako Morton with an opening bowling partnership of Lawson, who dismissed Sanga in the run chase, and Tino Best. The Windies were competitive in the first two innings but collapsed to Vaas & Murali in the 3rd innings which settled the match:

Oh dear, the second worst of all cricketing dismissals: c. Bell b. Patel
The Chandiman is gone. On the heave.

Really, really don't know why we'd just play into their hands and only bowl 7 overs of pace in this session. Yeah, it's hot, so play more pace bowlers or get Jandy and SBro to dig deep.

Seems like no forethought. Lets see. SL plays spin well, so lets play 3 spinners. WE can always bowl KP if they get tired.
