No real surprise there. Rs 3,851 crore contract and a new channel possible too.

the lesser of two evils. star is still better than sony, especially since their focus is sports

though over the years they seem to be moving more towards the sony/dd/neo model

Definitely the better of the two. It should be interesting to see if Star do start a new channel in case of a clash of schedule or just pick the more viable option.

dont know why they need to. they have star cricket and can show any extra matches on star sports or espn

they now only hold rights for cricket in aus and eng, besides india. and cricket in aus and eng never clash, so 2 channels should be enough

The Ranji season will clash with parts of the Australian season. Star Cricket normally shows all the domestic Australian and English cricket, but I have seen ODD matches telecast on ESPN or Star Sports. If it gets busy, especially on weekends, there may be necessity for a new channel.

ah yes. should be a couple of hours in the morning though, i.e. if we get india playing at home, matches in aus and the ranji all at the same time

i guess time will tell. what will they call it? star cricket 2?

Quite possibly star cricket 2.

Ranji and Ryobi matches will have a proper clash, pretty much the full day.
