Crisis at the BBC Empty Crisis at the BBC

It's amazing how no one saw this coming. They get taxpayer money thrown at them (Around 3 BILLION pounds a year), and aren't regularly required to explain what they are doing with it. Their news coverage has been on the slide for about five years now- There were clear signs they were getting extremely sloppy, but it's taken a major error for the Government to even consider popping the BBC bubble.

World service radio has really slipped alarmingly in the last four years. Post the global slow down and the proposed cost cuts, they decide to stop their proper reporting (Kremlin and the World in 2008 and Secrets in the blood around the olympics time were both top documentaries), and the Friday docos have slipped into this facebook twitter type reporting on wikipedia's tenth birthday (FFS!) and less quality matter.

Stopped listening to it recently, and it took a lot of persuasion to get off it, which they certainly did with their programmes.

They tried to get all 'Gen Y' with their diamond jubilee coverage as well. It was awful. "Fark the flotilla, Lucy's got a special guest with her....Gary Barlow!"

Heh, had to search Gary Barlow. That is scraping the barrel for ideas.

Yeah from all accounts its been going the way of the Murdochs for years but then I still know(n?) people who called it all rubbish but that used it for QFT.

Hopefully it helps to lift it standards but really, the phone hacking scandals should tell you that big media these days are a ****** joke and wont change anything to raise standards.

Jimmy Savile would be loving all this posthumous attention - no?
