Drafters' Poll (for clarification, calling Trike, baggygreen, Trev!)
I think we'd better clarify this here issue ASAP - before the final picks are made?
I'm just re-profiling Growler's poll on the "Draft" thread, which might get lost under the usual subsequent pile of 'shizniz' (Mr Prez).
It doesn't matter if you state a preference there or here - would just be good to get this clear, so we know where we're at when deciding on our 12th man and/or pick. ~ It's not a radio-button type of jobbee of a poll. It's just for participants, so no pretty radio buttons.
The question is, should the 12th player chosen be:
A:) a specialist fielder (and otherwise sleeping partner, non-participant, dead man running, call it what you will)?
or
B) considered a full "usable" squad member, to be used according to different playing conditions/grounds/weather, etc.?
I much prefer B myself, but I'll obviously go with A if that's the majority/consensus view.
I'd just like to know, so I know how/who to go and pick in the last two rounds, what to pick the last player FOR. - I suppose others do, too.
So far, I think it's gone:
Growler - B
taipan - A
Skully - B
Tricycle -
baggygreen -
Peter - B
Brass Monkey - A
Trevor -
Can trike, baggygreen, Trevor pls post a preference - either here or on the "Draft" thread - ASAP?
thx!

3-3
(although Growler and BM have both since indicated they don't really mind which)
Two votes left for a clear picture!

I don't really mind either, just thought I'd pick Inzy as specialist fielder.PeterCS wrote:3-3

It might be Sa(a)g Aloo, if he stumbles over a few catches and flings himself over the top of a few boundary shots.

Re: Drafters' Poll (for clarification, calling Trike, baggygreen, Trev!)
I'm not sure tbh.
Never really knew what Prez had in mind for the twelfth man. I think having the 12th man as a specialist fielder is extrapolating from nothing, even if it is a good idea. Fielding is certainly an important trait in cricket.
However I think that we're picking a best XI and the 12th man should in compass that; a player not quite in your squad but who could fit in easily at short notice be it because of injuries. form or conditions.
Which is closer to B I think

Definitely an A for me, Pete, as mentioned in the Draft thread. Gives the gun fielders a chance to be in these elite squads.

Re: Drafters' Poll (for clarification, calling Trike, baggygreen, Trev!)
A? But you were down as B on the other thread ....
*goes and looks again ...*
Ah, I see it seems to be Monkey who added you as B on the list, and that continued along the chain of C&Ps from taipan in the next post.
Well, I don't know.
Maybe if Lardy is allowed by you and others to join the comp at the last minute, and hurried up, he can have the sudden glory of the casting vote then? (As Prez seems to be gone for unknown duration.)
But can we reach some blinkin' decision?

What? not even a 12th man now???
Then you'd better tell Trev, Trike and Danny that retrospectively they have already made their last pick!

Bugger it .... I'll change to A ....... starting XI + sub, which will be easiest, thus making the vote 5 to 3.
If all selections are made by w/end I'm still happy to line the teams up and go from there .....

Okay - done.
I'll make my pick on that basis.
If there is a change to 12 potentially active players, I reserve the right to change my player on grounds of a rule change!
(I've phoned the ICC, and they're backing me on this one. Providing lawyers too ...)

You know me, man, I'm f*cking mellow. Thrash it out and let me know what you all decide. Let me know, in the form of interpretive flashdance.
Re: Drafters' Poll (for clarification, calling Trike, baggygreen, Trev!)
There's nothing left but a dead substitute
Who sits and hides in the pavilion, deep, deep inside
All alone he just cries, silent tears full of pride
When the team's just eleven - - set in stone ....
Well, he hears the call, closes his eyes, feels the rhythm
"Reach around, take a hold of my ......."
What a feeling, playin's believin'
I can have it all, now
I'm SELECTED, and playing for my life
Take your pants down (box on), make it happen
Pictures come alive, you can play right through your life
.... but it's just a dream.
Cos there's nothing left but a dead substitute
Who sits and hides in the pavilion, deep, deep inside
All alone he just cries, silent tears full of pride
