Girls missing for 10 years escape their kidnapper

" "Help me! I'm Amanda Berry ... I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years and I'm here, I am free now."

With those words, a shaken but exuberant Amanda Berry announced her freedom to a US emergency services operator after a decade of captivity.

Two other women, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight, missing for years, were also found at a suburban Cleveland home, ending years of heartbreaking search by their families.

Cheering crowds gathered on Monday night on the street near the home where police found the girls. A 52-year-old man has since been arrested.

The end of a nightmare came after a neighbour spotted Berry screaming and trying to get out of the house.

"I heard screaming ... and I see this girl going nuts trying to get outside of the house," Charles Ramsey, a neighbour who found the women, told the local ABC affiliate on Monday."

Wow, the joy those parents and relatives (not to mention the girls themselves) must've felt to get their girls back, albeit 10 years older than when they last saw them.

Unfortch, Amanda's Mum couldn't cope with her daughter's loss and died in 2006.

It now transpires that the black dude came in after the event. A couple with poor English from across the road actually first came to the screaming Amanda's rescue. Rastas joined in later then took the kudos.

Alarmingly, when neighbours were interviewed, a few confirmed they had heard the odd blood-curdling scream over the years but didn't know where they were coming from. Scarey. Shocked
