He was bowling about 10 kph slower than normal in the 1st test so there has been a problem from the start.

I guess this explains Pattinson's poor form. Pattinson is the real deal, but those two first tests were the worst I've seen from him in the baggy green.

Hopefully he'll be fit and raring to go for the return series.

I would assume it's a straight choice between Bird and Starc for his replacement. Although I'd expect both of them to play at Durham considering Harris is unlikely to play back-to-back tests.

By the way, if they're considering playing Wade as a specialist batsman when Katich is in the country and available... well, it just sounds like pig-headedness selection policy to me.

Aye Hass. If their bullshit excuse is "we are looking to the future", then they deserve a decent stabbing. FFS, this is the Ashes - fark the future. Put the BEST 6 batsmen available for selection on the farkin park, you qunts. And that does not include useless pricks like Twatto, Con and TCS. Fleas, Beetle, Vague and Monty could all do better.

Monty's not for sale, agree he's a better batsman than the Aussie top order though...

Starc would come into the side for Pattinson, wouldn't he? He's more of a strike bowler.

Not sure they need to call up a replacement when they have Bird and Faulkner in the wings but Hilfenhaus is fit now, if they call up MJ before him.... /tilt

Do any of the UK forummers have any suggestions about what to do in Manchester (yes, I am anticipating having a few days spare).

I got this from Timeout but frankly they all look boring as batshit.

Done it but will probably do it again.

I am trying to get a ticket to the Man U - Chelsea match at OT which is on on the last day of the Oval Test (which obviously wont be needed).

Aye, that is mostly bollocks, though Abode and Aumbrey are good eats if you can afford it.
Otherwise, go for drinks in the Northern Quarter; see if there's a gig on at Band on the Wall, The Ruby Lounge, the Deaf Institute or The Academies; have a walk along Oxford Street through the university and pop in to see Victoria Baths where scenes from Cracker and Life on Mars were filmed; carry on going to Rusholme and have a nosebag on the Curry Mile..
That should keep you busy, but if there's anything you particularly like to do give me a shout and I'll try to point you in the right direction..

So the question is, did they play him knowing about the injury, or not pick the injury up?

If they do this I will kick someone in the balls. If they are looking to the future WTF is Haddin playing for? You could put a mattress with a dustbin at the bottom of it and catch more balls than Haddin can.

Surely, an inexperienced, brittle, young batting line-up would benefit from an in-form, ex Australian player with massive experience in Test cricket and English conditions (ie Katich) who knows a thing or two about batting and surviving at the crease. Who gives a shite if he is currently contracted.

To play a keeper/bat they dropped for Haddin (Wade) who could not keep his place as either a bat or aa keeper now as a specialist batsman on seaming decks; well ****** me, if they do that then CORIAB should now apply to the ACB as well as PCB and BCCI.

There seems to be a suggestion that Australia were aware all along that Pattinson wasn't 100% fit. They really are pathetic, aren't they. If a young fast bowler is having a bit of back soreness, stop him bowling and get him checked straight away FFS!
