Zimbabwe cricket in crisis (again)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe/content/current/story/663245.html
"Kyle Jarvis, the Zimbabwe fast bowler, has retired from international cricket. Jarvis opted out of the upcoming series against Pakistan to take up a county offer and stated he will not return to play cricket in Zimbabwe."
Jarvis is far and away Zimbabwe's best quick bowler- The Heath Streak of 2013. And they've lost him. Such a pity.

Yeah, they're f*cked without Jarvis.
Shame they always go down the shitter.

Re: Zimbabwe cricket in crisis (again)
Hmmm, where's he off to then - he said a "top" English county, which sort of rules Pears out I suppose! Then again, he's the sort of left field pick we seem to go for these days.

When it's Somerset? Kirby and Thomas are on their last legs, and Jamie Overton will need a new ball partner next season.

We're definitely in the market for a decent seamer. Richardson might have another season in him, but nothing more. Richard Jones will almost certainly be released and there are rumours that Anish Kapil is on his way. Then there is the legend that is David Lucas - I don't think I thanked Danny properly for him.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's among quite a few, and Craig Ervine's intentions were also pretty clear when he switched base.
Makes sense, playing for Zimbabwe is a charity rather than a job.

Well, the ICC either has to intervene and get Zimbabwe playing a decent amount of international cricket, or officially relegate them to associate status. Otherwise they will keep losing their best players.
David Lucas - was he one of the original Triumvirate of Gash?

As long as Zimbabwe keeps voting with India, the BCCI wont allow the ICC to relegate Zimbabwe to associate status.

Actually Zim have been playing a fair amount recently. This has actually pissed me off as a couple of years ago I thought they were putting some decent structures in place.beamer wrote:Well, the ICC either has to intervene and get Zimbabwe playing a decent amount of international cricket, or officially relegate them to associate status. A year ago it seemed like Zimbabwean cricket was beginning to stabilise. No longer....

Re: Zimbabwe cricket in crisis (again)
Would say the ICC can't really do anything this time. Most of the teams shit all over Zimbabwe now that they're playing more, their A team tours seemed a good idea. Anyway, they needn't really be pushed out of the permanent status, they'd relinquish it again if this continues.
I remember reading a report a couple of weeks ago when playing against India that Brendan Taylor was on a $6000pa contract and that the players had to eat at the stadium because the board didn't have the money to pay for food at the hotel. The player's union, which surprisingly has not been touched upon in this article, and strike threats ensued, regardless of colour this time. They've reportedly got 3 contracted umpires in domestic cricket (I don't know).
It seemed to be getting better around the time the Stanbic 2020 thing was going on, they've lost a lot of sponsors since then. All for some fat cat bureaucrat to have his share, and the politics.
As for Craig Ervine, wasn't it Ireland that he went to?

Re: Zimbabwe cricket in crisis (again)
Triumvirate Of Gash (n) [Explanation supplied by poster Brass Monkey] "At the time, Northants had incredibly resigned the three-countied Richard Logan who'd been nothing but an abject failure in his three previous spells in FC cricket (incredibly Surrey signed him afterwards). He combined with David Wigley (a total Worcs-reject, who was like a demented, gangly version of Ajit Agarkar) and David Lucas (whose best day was like Mitchell Johnson's worst day - maybe like in an Ashes Test just after him mum's come out in the press saying he's got a nice willy and his girlfriend just sucked off or f*cked 700 blokes). They combined to have a bowling average of approximately 39. Now, get this, David Capel came out in the press to say something along the lines of 'at least we have a good seam attack this year' - a good f*cking seam attack?! It nearly made me cry with utter helplessness." The term can be applied to any poorly performing trio.Basil wrote:If he wasn't, he ought to be.beamer wrote:Well, the ICC either has to intervene and get Zimbabwe playing a decent amount of international cricket, or officially relegate them to associate status. Re: Zimbabwe cricket in crisis (again)
The ICC writes them a cheque for several million dollars each year without ever asking what they do with the money. Safe to say it isn't used to pay the players. But I'm sure most of the ZCU officials are living very well.....tricycle wrote:Would say the ICC can't really do anything this time. Someone just as bad will likely take his place, unfortunately. I'm not convinced Morgan Tsvangirai would be much better. Mugabe had the support of the West as recently as the 90s.tricycle wrote:The worst ones always seem to live the longest.taipan wrote:Zimbabwe is farked while Mugabe lives. I don't know anything about domestic politics, but should be safe to assume each is bad as the other (works a treat here), and then there's Mugabe.Henry wrote:Someone just as bad will likely take his place, unfortunately.
