Current form World XI?
The rankings only tell half the story. And are only periodically updated.
Would you go with something like?:
1. D Warner
2. B McCullum (VC)
3. C Pujara
4. AB De Villiers
5. Misbah-ul-Haq *
6. K Sangakkara
7. MS Dhoni +
8. M Johnson
9. D Steyn
10 R Harris (or if injured again, V Philander)
11 S Ajmal (or if he's called, N Lyon - or R Herath?)
Perhaps not Amla or Clarke, who have produced only the odd top innings lately.
Faf might be nearing inclusion.
McCullum might be a daft choice for Test opener, but as has been mentioned, there are so few openers shining at the moment. Dhawan? Has gone off the boil a bit too.
Your current choice to play Mars?

Sanga should be at three, surely. Herath should be in there- He's a hugely underrated spinner. Haddin or maybe Prasanna Jayawardene for Dhoni, perhaps. Dhoni's keeping has been very average for the last couple of years.
I'd actually go for-
1. Warner
2. McCullum
3. Sangakarra
4. Pujara
5. de Villiers+ (even though I don't think he should be keeping for South Africa)
6. Williamson
7. Corey Anderson/Ben Stokes/Ravi Jadeja
8. Johnson
9. Steyn/Herath (depending on conditions)
10. Harris
11. Boult
If we're talking purely form over the last 6-12 months.

Maybe Trev is right that Sanga has to come in earlier, at 3 (despite making the top three like a ODI top order), and the rest one place down.
But the bigger flaw in "my team" is that there are only four bowlers. Maybe Clarke has to come in after all, as second spinner. For .....? There are plenty of other glovemen there if Dhoni is dropped, so maybe it has to be him.

Don't like him, but Kohli should be there or at least around there.

Instead of Miserable Hack?
Trev - who'd be your captain? Bren gun? Give him the gloves too?

Yes McCullum would be my captain, but I wouldn't give him the gloves.

Yeah, unless 3 is a fix. Think Kohli could go well there too.PeterCS wrote:Instead of Miserable Hack?

Kohli needs to play a few more match winning innings in test cricket first. He's played plenty in ODIs, of course....

Re: Current form World XI?
He's not going to be playing many match winning innings with India's bowling. He has played some fine innings in test cricket too (away, especially), but yeah, he needs a few more.
Either way, I like Pujara, so him at 3. Kohli can f*ck himself.

That's a bit harsh.
It's not a popularity contest.

True enough, would be a close call, but you are the overlord.
Only other one I'd think of is Prasanna Jayawardene for Dhoni (think Henry's already mentioned it). Although, for interplanetary diplomacy, team only plays if Warner's gagged.
