Not got anything to do with running out the batsman.lardbucket wrote:Have you seen the video? His action is so slow, he holds it back deliberately with no intention whatsoever to deliver the ball, his sole intention in walking in to 'bowl' is to Mankad the batsman. And yes, Buttler is a stupid git for not watching until thebowlingaction has been completed before leaving the crease. It's not so much analogous to a normal stumping as it is to a stumping where the keeper takes the ball in front of the stumps, or feigns a throw to the cover fieldsman before turning to complete a stumping as the inattentive batsman takes a step outside his crease to swap some debris off the wicket.
Is the stopping part not also against the spirit of the game?
I agree Taips. In baseball a balk is punishable by the batters moving around one base. In fact, there was a 13 innings game the other day decided with the pitcher balked with bases loaded.

That is why I mentioned the balk. It is also penalized in rugby.

Batters' movement are also restricted to a very small box, if I'm not mistaken,,unlike in cricket where the batsman can move across a two metre diameter not to mention running down the pitch to hit the ball.JGK wrote:I agree Taips. And the pitcher is restricted to a very small strike zone, so the point is?

The point is that I don't see pausing as taboo. Batsmen haven't had too many problems playing it so far, unlike super chuckers.
ETA: Also think that it's mainly blatant chuckers who can benefit from pausing in their action. Would be hard to generate any pace or revs on the ball with a non straightening elbow when stopping in between.
