Of courses if the ECB were a real company (not a cosy jobs for the boys club), they would Do some market research into what their core market really wants.
Actually it wouldn't be difficult. Just read any of the multitude of cricket forums.

I think it's pretty simple- We want a winning team that plays positive, expressive cricket.

Yes. We have other players who can potentially play the same way. they just need the confidence and backing to do so.

India, sure. But England did just lose to Sri Lanka last year. So, even beating Asian teams isn't a given.beamer wrote:And we probably will continue to win home Tests against Asian and Caribbean teams for the foreseeable future, by exploiting the conditions with our signature brand of turgid, wait-and-see, bore-them-into-submission cricket. Re: World Cup 2015
Well, that was immediately after the Ashes meltdown, they were the cricket equivalent of a boxer staggering to his feet after taking a Carl Froch haymaker, the average village second XI would probably have beaten them then.
Anyway, Sri Lanka are about three retirements away from being on a par with Bangladesh. Although we said that when Chuck called it a day I suppose.

They can't afford to lose Sanga, which they will in the not too distant future, but they've improved quite a bit in the past couple of years. Says more about how unbalanced they were before.

Re: World Cup 2015
Interesting stat from yesty's game in Christchurch. Denesh Ramdin's top score of 51 in WI's 6-310 was the lowest top score in a team total of 300+ in ODI history, "beating" Lance Klusner's 54 of SAf's 9-311 v SL, Lahore, Nov 6, 1997.
His was one of only 2 50s by the WIs (Lendl Simmons made 50). Good team work by the Ganjas.

Ghani's off to a slow start in Dunedin v SL. Just 2 runs in the first 4.

A few years ago the comment was made that they had good quick bowlers in their ranks but the batting was lagging behind.

Bannies 1-61 off 15. Would've been an excellent start 10-15 years ago, but less than required these days.
Having said that, Darwin smokes one to the square leg fence, one bounce.
