Testing my theory about many of the 2019 squad being unknown now: how many of the current crew were in the squad in 2011? Pup, Haddin, Watson are the only ones I don't have to look up, Warner had already played ODI for Australia, Bailey had stood in for Pup in NZ the year before, but I don't recall either of them in the WC squad....any more?

Smith and Johnson too then. Perhaps 5 (of 15) lasting 4 years is as much as you can expect.

Even ignoring hindsight it's hard to see what they were aiming at with the 2011 mob....a few too many 'last hurrahs', and 75%-all-rounders like Hastings and (in those days) Smith. A nod to 'development' rather than a serious commitment to it.

It is not as though there were a bunch of good options

Still in awe of Starc's tournament - top the wicket list, average of 10 and a ER of 3.5 in a tournament where 300 was par.

What happened to the mighty NZ batting of the rest of the tournament? Excellent bowling, or failed to rise to the occasion? (Obv I didn't stay/get up to see it!)

My dark horse for player of the tournament was Sangga. Come on, four tons on the trot? Very nearly ended as top runscorer despite departing at the qf.
