Bolt!!!
Thought this deserves a thread.
Usain Bolt had been written off by a lot of people as a spent force, with drug cheat Justin Gatlin the favourite with many to take the 100 metre final at this year's world athletics championships in Beijing. Well, cometh the hour, cometh the man. Bolt wins!
What. A. Champion.

Amen to that. F*ck off Gatlin. How is a twice convicted drug cheat even allowed to compete?

Re: Bolt!!!
Bolt is the biggest legend in world sport currently.
Even makes me smile with passable acting in the ads he does. Just a bonus.
I just hope he doesn't sprinkle owt on his cornflakes.

Re: Bolt!!!
So so happy about this, sometimes sport does have happy endings .
Now they need to somehow stop that f*cker competing, the only reason he is even competing at his age is due to years of cheating with drugs (which many experts have said you get the benefits of years after taking them).
So so happy about this, what a champ.

Re: Bolt!!!
Gatlin stinks up a sewer.
Funny that for USADA's staunch pursuit of Lance Armstrong, they allowed Gatlin to go off with a shortened sentence when a second offence should result in a life ban.

Was quite sad watching Katerina Johnson Thompson 800m enforced stroll and subsequent breakdown

Re: Bolt!!!
I agree with Monkey, Jess Ennis-Hill has done way more today. 7 events after a year off and does it in style.
A woman with so much more style and heart than the show off men in athletics.

It was, will be a huge learning curve for her, she has huge talent, hope she goes OK in the long jump and picks herself up for the future.

I suppose it's admirable that she didn't just try to get a jump in, but in such a competition it could be seen as a bit silly
Re: Bolt!!!
She's young, I think she tried to win before she made herself safe. Impetuous, I think she'll learn.

Re: Bolt!!!
Now that Bolt is past his best how about he turns his hand to cricket. Gotta be a decent prospect as a quick?

Re: Bolt!!!
Just need Bolt to stay fit for the Olympics. It would be even worse if Gatlin won there.

Umm. Did anyone say anyone else had done more today?
I agree with the "style and heart" argument(s) - the sort of character traits I often praise over other aspects in cricket too - but (key point) I don't see how Bolt (in particular) must necessarily be found wanting, in order to acknowledge Jessica or anyone else's feats. I've praised the pride of Sheffield plenty elsewhere: but I think this was a Bolt thread until Danny switched it (to wrongfoot me, perhaps).
FWIW Style (!) and heart are strong features of Usain too, I think. And class. And humanity, as opposed to any strutting virility. And opposing drug cheatery. (I hope.)
Even if, as you say, it's only a short event or two he competes in.

Re: Bolt!!!
Jessica Ennis-Hill had that second won the Heptathlon. I didn't mean to detract from Bolt, who seems to be one of life's good guys and an incredible athlete.
But whatevs.
Congrats to them both and to all the competing athletes (apart from Drugstin Gatlin). Peace and love. The Brass Villain hath spoken.

Re: Bolt!!!
There are two kind of people in athletics: drug cheats and drug cheats who get caught.
WGAF who wins? They'll all be dead from freakishly bloated hearts before they're 50.

Re: Bolt!!!
I was so happy. Although I ended up feeling a little sorry for Gatlin. He's not a monster like Armstrong, just a silly cheat. Some of the vitriol was a bit much.
But Bolt. Wow. To pull out THAT performance under that much pressure, with Gatlin running like an absolute metronome. Seriously, the pressure was as big as it gets and he won. Again. Legend doesn't even begin to sum it up.
Definitely the best athlete and possibly the greatest sportsman of all time. No joke. Messi, Bradman, Bolt. Peerless.

Re: Bolt!!!
Jess Ennis - brill as always but the enormity of what Bolt did given the respective form of him and Gatlin, the crushing pressure to stay at the top, the ageing legs, the average heats, saving the sport etc etc cannot be underestimated. Dug so so deep. His greatest win.
Commentary was fantastic too.

Harsh. The poor chuck.
Though the inestimable and fabulous Michael Johnson laid it on the line. Elementary error, crazy.
