Watching Crash Craddock & Max, he loved the MCG....hopefully he'll be honoured on Sat if the program hasn't already been set in concrete

Would like that too. Maybe shortly after the passing parade of retired players, they could put something on the scoreboard to honour him.

RIP to Daily Telegraph sports journo Rebecca Wilson, who died late last night from breast cancer after a 4 year battle. She was 54.

Ross Higgins had a remarkable career, and a pretty good innings in life. Many people wouldn't know he was the voice of Louie the Fly and Mr Sheen.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVI / The Death Thread 2016
RIP John Gleeson
"Australian Test leg-spinner John Gleeson, has died in Tamworth, northern New South Wales, aged 78.
Gleeson played 27 Tests between 1967 and 1972. The news of his passing was confirmed by Ian Chappell on the Nine Wide World of Sports Matador Cup coverage.
"He's sadly passed away in the Tamworth hospital, aged 78," Chappell confirmed.
"The folded finger-spinner they called him," he recalled of Gleeson. "He came from Tamworth, started out his cricket life as a wicketkeeper and he fiddled around flicking these balls …
"I think he started with a table tennis ball, and developed into a very fine finger spinner.
"I spoke to him the other day, he'd come to grips with his situation and his last words were to me, 'Don't fret, mate, I'm in good shape'."

In case anybody else was wondering, R.E.G. (Dickie) Jeeps was an English Rugby international from the 50s and 60s. (TFF Wiki)
RIP the Jeepster. I'll leave the 'he bought it' lines to others.

Also RIP John Gleeson, a good bowler and a thoroughly decent bloke by all accounts, and Tamworth's most famous son never to make a country & western album.
(In response to rising speculation that he may have 'wound back the speedo' to extend his career, I checked the Whos Who in the 1972 Australian Cricket Annual, and John William Gleeson was listed there, just like on Crocinfo, with the birth date 14 March 1938.)

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVI / The Death Thread 2016
There would be few bowlers who troubled test batsmen as much as Gleeson but ended up with an ordinary bowling average.
It has been a bad week for Australian bowlers of that era with unusual actions/deliveries. How are Froggy Thomson & Bob Bitmead these days?

IIRC Barry Richards took a liking to him in 69/70.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVI / The Death Thread 2016
Richards took a liking to just about everybody that bowled at him in 69-70....and the next year in Australia. Sobers also well and truly collared Gleeson once he worked him out late in the 68-69 season.
Gleeson was a good spin bowler but there wasn't much Plan B....like a lot of unorthodox bowlers. He also could have been handled better by his various captains. RS Whitington and Lou Rowan were both highly critical of Lawry's handling of his spin bowlers in Ashes 70-71, and Ian Chappell, after insisting that Gleeson be included ahead of Kerry O'Keefe (who had 'come good' late in the ROW series after a poor start) for Ashes 72, dropped him clay cold once the team arrived in England. He may have been bloody handy on the Headingley mattress, for starters.
