Pakistan v New Zealand, 2nd Test, Dubai, 24-28 November, 2018
Will the Wackies bounce back, or is JtB still patrolling the Dubai stadium?

Just started. 3 tests happening at the same time. Grouse.

Big Man on fire early for the Snoozies.
Across the last 2 Tests, the Whackies have now lost 9/66. Let's see if the Windies can beat that.

Another low slow one by the looks. 207 in the day is tedious.

Babar finally manages to score his maiden Test century in his 17th match.
I recall one of our forummers once shared a prison cell with Babar. I guess he is very pleased to see his friend reach this milestone.

Sohail and Azam certainly dined out in the end, albeit slowly.
Looks a dull draw, this one.

I just noticed that both Whackie openers were dismissed for the same score and in the same manner in the first innings.
I know happened in the 82/3 Ashes series (Wessels and Dyson our for a pair of 44 c Taylor b Golden Bollocks) but presumably it has happened a couple of other times.

I believe this was the 7th instance in Tests:
RG Barlow/CT Studd 14 – bowled GE Palmer
Eng (1st innings) v Aus, Melbourne(2), 1882-83
PF Warner/JN Crawford 4 – bowled JH Sinclair
Eng (2nd) v SAf, Cape Town(4), 1905-06
B Warnapura/JR Ratnayeke 6 – ct Yashpal Sharma b Kapil Dev
SL (2nd) v Ind, Madras, 1982-83
KC Wessels/J Dyson 44 – ct RW Taylor b IT Botham
Aus (1st) v Eng, Adelaide, 1982-83
SM Gavaskar/K Srikkanth 21 – bowled Tauseef Ahmed
Ind (1st) v Pak, Bangalore, 1986-87
MJ Horne/CM Spearman 12 – ct AC Gilchrist b GD McGrath
NZ (1st) v Aus, Hamilton, 1999-00
Imam-ul-Haq/Mohammad Hafeez 9 - c TWM Latham by C de Grandhomme
Pak (1st) v NZ, Dubai, 2018-19

LOL @ Sheep. Went from 1-61 to 4-61 in one Yasir over, then lost another 4 quick ones.
Williamson has watched it all from the other end.
Scorecard looks like a duck farm.

Was thinking it was duck season in the middle east.

I watched the highlights of Yasir's bowling yesterday. That was some spell of leg spin.

418 declared and 90 all out. Where does that rank with the biggest first innings deficits in tests i wonder?
50-0 to 90 all gone is some crash as well.

Biggest deficits (>400) after 1st innings:
702 - Aus v Eng, The Oval, 1938
587 - SAf v SL, Colombo, 2006
563 - WI v Eng, Kingston, 1930
509 - Eng v SAf, Lords, 2003
498 - BD v SL, Dhaka, 2013-14
496 - Zim v Aus, Perth, 2003-04
493 - SAf v Aus, Jo'burg, 2001-02
486 - Ind v Eng, Edgbaston, 2011
485 - Zim v SL, Bulawayo, 2004
476 - Eng v Pak, The Oval, 1987
473 - Pak v WI, Bridgetown, 1957-58
468 - Ind v Aus, Sydney, 2011-12
466 - Eng v WI, St Johns, 2004
462 - Pak v WI, Kingston, 1957-58
453 - Eng v Aus, Headingley, 1993
444 - NZ v WI, Wellington, 1994-95
442 - Aus v SAf, Cape Town, 2008-09
419 - Eng v WI, Lords,1985
405 - Eng v Aus, Sydney, 1946-47
401 - WI v Aus, Kingston, 1955
There are stacks of 300+ 1st innings deficits, so the effort of NZ in this Test, while poor, is nothing dramatically out of the ordinary, historically speaking.

Thanks for that but it seems impossible that two teams ranked relatively evenly on paper could be so far apart on 1st innings.

Agreed, but every so often a bowler (especially a leggie) hits the sweet spot.

Wasn't Bradman playing in 1938?
