Aggers vs Liew
Quite some battle of the Jonathans... I’ll admit to having responded in similar fashion to people on forums including this one, but then again I’m not an iconic voice of cricket who’s pushing 60 and has been on the air for three decades. Neither comes out of it well really. Aggers can be excused to an extent by the fact his wife’s been ill etc. but you have to be concerned for where he’s at mentally, I wonder how much we’ll hear him on air this summer even if he’s got away with a reprimand from the BBC.

Aye. I'm surprised dear gentle old Aggers even knew the word "qunt".

Personally, I just think, what a pleasure to hear Jeremy Coney on TMS once again!
A proper cricket expert, serious with a light touch (he can chat, but without chatter and banality) - as perceptive as he is articulate - cheerily open- and fair-minded - honestly frank but considered in his comments ... & also nicely self-deprecating, but without an undue, self-regarding vanity by the back door that some show.
Would that all cricket voices were like Coney!
(I can't say I've ever taken to Agnew. For several of the reasons suggested above.)

Re: Aggers vs Liew
Little example of why I don't take to Agnew.
He came on commentary (radio) as Pakistan were batting strongly. Can't remember if one or no wicket down, and going at 6.5 or 7 runs an over.
His first statement. "Well - none of us was expecting this!" (Or words to that effect.)
On the face of it, nothing but a simple statement of the fatuous. Sorry, I meant to say "... of the obvious".
But:
a) Speak for yourself mate. Don't speak for anyone else (as he is perennially wont to do.)
b) Everyone with any modicum of wit knows Pakistan have for years been THE most inconsistent team in world cricket. ... But not, it seems, Agnew.
c) Not transcribable in the words above, but there's way too often a cringeworthy sort of condescension in his tone. Oh look, these fellows can play a bit of cricket after all, what?
d) He had every chance to be generous, to lend some grace to the game, be a bit open-minded. And give a good account also of himself.
Anything on the lines of: "How good it is to see Pakistan come back like this. Spirited play. Good for them. Good for the tournament. Good for cricket." But once again from Agnew, not the slightest hint of any of that. All clucking hen ...
On the positive side: I really like Fazeer Mohammed. Pleasure to hear his voice. Undisguised enthusiasm for WIndies, but fair-minded with it, can see a bigger picture in the game, and beyond the game, gives credit where it's due, wherever the merit is. And he knows what he's talking about, good interpretation of the play. Neat sense of humour. And good voice quality too. (No hint of a self-dusting, self-preening, puffed-up vain hen about him. ...) Strange to think I don't miss Tony Cozier as much as I thought I would. Fazeer walks a similar walk quite comfortably, even if his shoes are not yet as "seasoned".

Fully agree with garrulous Pete on Jonathan being an insufferable sonofabish.
