Re: dropped catches
Long, but interesting.
Always thought that this is a valid part of statistics.

He's done a hell of a lot of research on it.

Re: dropped catches
Terrific piece of work. I have always wanted some form of error count, esp for keepers.

Re: dropped catches
Lardy, if you are in touch with Zeddy please pass on our thanks for an amazing piece of work.
I wonder if it is possible re keepers to further break down stumping, catches missed from spin or quicks and run-outs stuffed up.
Keeping is the one specialist position that should be measured by error rate to identify their worth.
Just as bats are now almost unrecognisable from those I used, so too are keeper's gloves. Modern day gloves are quite different to those mittens used by Tallon and (my hero) Wally Grout or even Alan Knott. This makes cross generational comparisons difficult but still fun.

Re: dropped catches
I'm not in touch with Zeddy - not now, not previously.
As you know he used to post on the ABC forum and perhaps briefly on C4.

Re: dropped catches
The 'lucky' sub section was the most interesting for me. One of the ways I have always quickly identified the 'death riders' is when they lament that their hobby-horse was dropped first ball on their way to a (career-saving/selfish/flat track) 100, selectively cancelling the merit of the innings even if they went chanceless from ball 2 onwards - like they're whining about how much easier their argument would be to make if there was a globe where that 135 not out is in their form line. Whereas if a bloke gets dropped at, say, 64, 88, 126 and 177 on the way to a double century it hardly ever gets mentioned.

Re: dropped catches
Yeah, and the understatement of the century from Durham keeper Chris Scott who said “he’s sure to get a hundred now”... wasn’t he bowled by a noey on 0 as well?

Re: dropped catches
The guy who dropped Richards comforted himself with the thought he couldn't get too many more. Ooops!

Re: dropped catches
And are we absolutely sure the Durham howzat-howler with the iron gloves was Chris Scott and not Brad?
