ICC team of the year
Mayank Agarwal, Tom Latham, Marnus Labuschagne, Virat Kohli (captain), Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, BJ Watling (wicketkeeper), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Neil Wagner, Nathan Lyon
Watling is a bit of a weak link.

Re: ICC team of the year
Well, we all know opening standards aren’t great at the moment. Agarwal was a shoo-in, but second opener didn’t provide a stand-out candidate. Burns got the most runs but only averaging mid-30s. Warner couldn’t really be named on the strength of one innings, having averaged 9 in England. Rohit only opened in 6 innings but averaged 93...

Well, it's discussion material.
And useful/interesting at least to that extent.

I suppose also it's not saying who you would select for your current World XI*.
But simply, which eleven players made the most outstanding mark in this year past. Watling is no doubt there for winning the series against England with the bat. Yes, of course I'm simplifying a bit.
(* against ... Mars XI?? - Or maybe vs a ROW XI, whoever they might be. Possibly the best players currently in the world, who relatively underachieved or were not as much in decisive evidence as usual in 2019. Bumrah, for example. Williamson, for another. Even - don't laugh - Bairstow as a batsman. And Paine with the gloves.)

Re: ICC team of the year
Well, in reality it would probably be a case of picking a ROW XI to play India, with their players removed from contention... in which case there would be two opening slots up for grabs, for a start!

Decent team. Don't think there can be too many arguments. Maybe holder has a case, but stokes has been amazing
