What should be India's starting XI for the opening match against Aussies in Gabba?

I reckon,

Tendulkar
Sehwag
Raina
Rohit
Yuvraj (if fit)
Dhoni
Uthappa
Pathan
Bhajji
Praveen
Ishant

I'm having serious reservations on the run scoring ability of that batting line-up. Even Yuvraj may be out of the series.

1st choice -

Sachin Tendulkar
Gautam Gambhir
Virender Sehwag
Yuvraj Singh
Rohit Sharma
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Robin Uthappa
Irfan Pathan
Harbhajan Singh
Sreesanth
Ishant Sharma

True, hence it was such a meaningless decision to leave Ganguly and Dravid out of ODIs.

I think after the first 2-3 games, Gambhir will be out of the side. And assuming Yuvraj stays fit.

Sachin Tendulkar
Virender Sehwag
Rohit Sharma
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh Raina
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Robin Uthappa
Irfan Pathan
Harbhajan Singh
Sreesanth
Ishant Sharma

will be the team. Swap Yuvi for Tiwary if Yuvi is unfit.

Even looking at that team is making me shudder.

Win more games than Sri Lanka to scrape into the finals. (and then get smashed 2-0)

Swap Yuvi for Tiwary if Yuvi is unfit.
Wonder why 1 slot is being wasted on Karthik, who is struggling to get any runs in ODIs. They could've so easily picked Tiwary in his place or Badrinath.

And then they say they prefer youngsters for ODIs.

RP Singh ruled out of ODI series

Munaf, Tiwary set for Australia
TNN / Chandresh Narayanan
PrintSaveWrite to EditorMail

MUMBAI, January 28: Injuries continue to hurt the Indian team in Australia. The latest on the casualty list are fast bowler RP Singh (hamstring) and ODI vice-captain Yuvraj Singh (knee).

But the Indian selectors have resisted temptations to hold back either Sourav Ganguly or VVS Laxman for the forthcoming tri-series. Instead, Dilip Vengsarkar and Co continue to give the ODI team a youthful look. This, even as ODI vice-captain Yuvraj races against time to be fit for the opening match of the series on February 3.

The selectors are planning to send ODI standby Manoj Tiwary as the 17th player as a back-up for Yuvraj. Before the Test series, the selectors had been given the option of sending an extra player (17th) which will be exercised now with a decision to send Tiwary.

RP’s replacement could be another standby, Munaf Patel, who has just returned to active cricket with the ongoing Duleep Trophy. A final decision on the replacements will be taken on Tuesday, when the first round of Duleep matches will be completed.

Sree Santh warned

Taking a cue from the Harbhajan Singh fracas, the BCCI has warned fast bowler Sree Santh over his on-field and off-field behaviour in Australia. Before leaving for Australia, the quirky fast bowler was told that any misdemeanour by him could result in him being called home.

‘‘Hopefully the message has gone through. He will have to pull up, no tantrums will be tolerated,’’ said a senior official.

While the ODI players reached Australia on Monday, Munaf and Tiwary are unlikely to reach Melbourne in time for the T20 international on February 1.

The selectors and team management have left it to Yuvraj to come up with a final assessment on his fitness. The ODI vice-captain is confident that he will be fit for the second game, but physio John Gloster says he will be ready for the series opener on February 3.

There are also murmurs about Yuvraj’s attitude. So the next 48 hours would be crucial for him.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that ODI captain MS Dhoni had plumped for Munaf Patel.

Good to see Tiwary being called.

Now only if they give him a chance to play on 3-Feb instead of the likes of Gambhirs and Karthiks.

Compared to who? Gambhir? Rohit Sharma?

Raina is unfairly criticised on this forum by Indian fans, imo. He's a great young talent who was promoted too fast, too soon by Greg Chappell. He's a better player now than he was 2 years ago.

Apparently, Atul Bedade was very talented. He could hit sixes on demand.

They're already stars, the c nuts. I'm looking to see if they can bat against the best 2 sides in the world, in Australia.

Even though I'm about sure we're going to get creamed in this series, I can't help looking forward to it. So many unknown quantities. Atleast 2-3 of the batsmen will have to step up in the next 2 years atleast. Can't ask for a tougher first taste of real international cricket.
