I'd die of shame if Smiffy the FTB broke Lara's record against Bangladesh (FFS).
He's still miles away, of course, but miles away on a flat track against Bangladesh doesn't seem like miles away.

I think the SLns would have something to say about that.
BTW, McKenzie looks in good touch.

Jebus, 1-415. Poor old Bangers. Get a sniff of victory in T1 then get snotted in T2.

Most important, Lara's record is safe. But we need the other dude to get out also.

Lordy, I don't think even Sooky would grind the Bangers into the dust to the extent needed for McKenzie to get to 401. He's only on 170.

Maybe a small glass of cheap sparkly, considering it was just against Bangladesh. A bit disappointing that records against near-minnows count - but, then again, many of the old records set up against now respected teams probably date from a time when those teams were piss-poor.furriner wrote:YAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Just making sure. Bangers gave a double to an Australian tailender as you may recall skulls.

True enough furry, but Sooky would have to allow SA to make about 950 if McKenzie was to have any chance at Lara's record. And I thoroughly agree with you what a massive traversty that would be. But then again, Sooky might like a tilt at the Lankan WR total after the hammering they took at the hands of Jaya and Sanga not that long ago.furriner wrote:Just making sure. Fair point - the previous opening record was made against an appallingly bad Kiwi bowling attack.

Macca is 230 odd at lunch. If he is 300+ by tea I could see Sniffy letting him have a crack. Jackie will also be putting his hand up for a lazy unbeaten ton.

Re: Bangladesh v South Africa, 2nd Test, Chittagong, 29th Feb
MtFTB brought up his triple v Zimmers in 362 balls. Sehwag got to his 300 v Pakistan in 364 balls. Wally Hammond got to 300 in 288 minutes v Snoozers. He came to the wicket at 1-56 and was not out at the end. Based on the innings scoring rate of 3.51 runs per over, he would have come to the wicket at around the beginning of the 17th over and England faced 156 overs. So Hammond was there for, say, 140 overs. 336 in 140 overs is 2.4 runs per over, so a rough estimate would be he reached his 300 in 125 overs. If he faced half the balls (6 ball overs in NZ at the time), that would be 375 balls (but it was probably more with him farming the strike).JGK wrote:Does anyone know what the fastest triple ton is by balls faced?
Lara did 404 and 432 balls to reach 300 in his two v England. Jayawardene took 491 balls v Saffies. DGB took over 400 balls in 1930 and over 450 balls in 1934 to reach his 300s at Leeds. Inzi took a little over 400 balls to get to 300 v Snoozers. Goochie took well over 400 balls to pass 300 v India, as did Chris Gayle v Saffies and John Edrich v Snoozers. In Sobers 365* I reckon he was at the wicket for about 185 overs, and faced around 450 balls to get to 300. Forget the rest.
So based on all of the above, I think Hayden is probably to holder of the quickest 300 in balls faced with 362 v Zimbots at the WACA during his 380.

You have to congratulate Smith and McKenzie for their powers of concentration if nothing else. But there goes another record debased by the paucity of the opposition.

Kallis 39 n.o. off 120 balls - what's the point of that?

Re: Bangladesh v South Africa, 2nd Test, Chittagong, 29th Feb
Super Rafique gets his 100th wicket with probably his final delivery in test cricket. Well done!
161.1 Mohammad Rafique to Peterson, OUT, That's his 100th Test wicket. Congrats Rafique! He can't believe the way it came. Freaky. He floated it full and outside off stump, Peterson went for an expansive off drive, got an edge and it bounded off Rahim's left thigh to first slip where its held. Rafique turns around to appeal, then clutches his head in relief and is soon surrounded by his team-mates. This is his last Test and one feared he might not get his 100th wicket but he has pulled it off. And South Africa have declared.
RJ Peterson c Junaid Siddique b Mohammad Rafique 4 (15m 7b 1x4 0x6) SR: 57.14
