Yes. Was it Clark?
I think he was worried we meant Ron

No, I think the spelling was right, Darren was also in Michael's family rather than Stuart's.

You were right though, the first Clarke I thought of was Ron.

Fred Nerk wrote:I remember a comment somebody made about how 'any Australian critic will insist Patrick White was a world class author. Many outside Australia will agree. But Australia's attachment to that view might not be because he is one, but because we need one.' We need a world-class sprinter so Shirvo will have to do, he won't beat Christie or Drummond or Greene or Johnston in a million years but who the hell else is there?
Likewise Lleyton Hewitt?
I'm not certain that "we" craved one Fred, but the television rights holders certainly believed we did.
Hewitt is different to some extent. He should barely rate a mention in 2008 but unlike say, a Tim Henman, he's but a multiple major champion & a World #1.

Not the first time in his life Ron rose to a great height and nearly got his hand burnt off.

And even Henman was a massive uptrade for his predecessor as 'local hero' - that towering presence in world tennis, Jeremy Bates.

hey embee - did you see the Force last night? Apart from the scrum they looked good and were just as deserving on the win as the Crusaders. Twas a great effort against a great team.

I can't even name Tim's female equiivalent, or for that matter Jeremy's. Virginia Wade must be into her 60s now and she might still be England's best female tennis player.

Sue Barker. May bave been ranked world top 5 for an hour or two in the mid-late 70s.
You still hear her dulcet tones at Wimbledon. The accent makes great audio and the visual's still not bad either but she can't commentate for nuts.

Wasn't John Lloyd a pom? He gets marks for shagging America's sweetheart although in hindsight that seems as difficult as shagging the Princess of Wales.

aye to all.
I saw an interview with her once where she railed against her Doris Day image carefully making the point that her life had been very normal in all respects.
