2.2 Pollock to Smith, OUT, Bizarre dismissal. Silly too. Smith had walked into a drive to a length delivery on the leg stump and missed it completely. He was outside the crease as he had over balanced and just kept walking! The ball went to the 'keeper who fumbled it before picking the ball and breaking the stumps. But Smith was not even looking behind. Did he think he was bowled? or did he think he would have been easily stumped? What a dramatic start. Strange dismissal that.

I think the dismissal of Smith suggested it might have been. Either that or he's even dumber than we imagined.

"I thought I was bowled off the pad, eh"
That's what Smith said to his teammates in the dug out when he saw the dismissal on the big screen.

'cause the Saffies were stupid enough to dump Pillock after his D/L stuffup and too stiff-necked to go back on it.

And now Pollock has retired, perhaps prematurely. Perhaps they should have got rid of Smith.

In form, the Sook's a decent enough bat. But although he's not a captain's left armpit, he seems to be the only one in the team up for the job. Boucher would be better but apparently doesn't want to do it. Kallis would be as bad as the Sook if not worse. And most of the rest are too young.

What about Amla or Prince?
Is Smith SA's worst ever skipper?

The usual BS.
Actually his win ratio stacks up pretty well against most SA skippers, except for Bacher's 4-0 over Australia.

Well obviously they at times wins in spite or despite him. As everyone else has noted, he's not a captain's bootlace. Surely Taipan you can do better than him. And who else could be dismissed in that manner?

Um his captaincy has improved, a lot of commentators have noted this.
As said Bouch doesn't want the job. Kallis neither, and is too thick anyway. The only other guy with real captaincy experience is McKenzie, but not a long term solution.
Um, Shane Warne, last week he got run out strolling back to the bowlers end without watching the play.

Smith is getting better as a captain. He's been very good in the last 6-12 months. He can only get better learning from Shane Warne.

I don't get the Smith hating in this forum. Seems a decent enough captain to me.

If he's smart enough to take on board what Warne has to offer this could be a seminal moment for him.

Well despite your previous comments they seem to be getting on pretty well.

Re: Game 27; Mumbai v Rajasthan. Mumbai, 7th May
despite various assertions to the contrary by aus posters, I have always believed that Smith is an extremely decent human being.
Re: Game 27; Mumbai v Rajasthan. Mumbai, 7th May
Smith was a right w*nker for the first few years of his captaincy. He was abrasive, arrogant, and there was the incident where he appeared as a witness against Michael Vaughan in a disciplinary hearing in early 2005. A right knob. But in the last 2 years, he seems to be gradually becoming more rounded as a captain and human being. He's more relaxed, and more willing to take advice from team mates.

But mainly because he was sick of being pilloried in home and overseas media sources. One suspects he didn't even understand he was so arrogant; he also has an arrogant face and demeanour.

Or maybe he has just matured.
