Viv v Warne???
Viv looked ordinary at times on the SCG bunsens (on which most of his team-mates usually looked worse), but he himself rated his 60 against Holland and Bennett a better innings than his double century a week before at the MCG, on a pitch not much better. Spin bowling challenged him, and late-career Viv often seemed in need of challenge. Watching Warne get flogged by Tendulkar and milked by Shastri in his first Test, it is easy to envisage Viv at Shastri's end may have ended Shane's career there and then, and shudder. But Aravinda de Silva, who Warne copped in his 3rd Test with an average of 300+, wasn't considered bad against spin either, and neither for that matter was Gatting....
We only missed out on this by about nine months and two Oz-WI Tests. What might have happened?

I thought this was going to be another of those "Which one is greater than God?" threads.

Viv had some difficulties against Chandra, and Qadir got a him a few times too. I'd be inclined to think that Warne would do well against him, though he'd be clouted for a few sixes too.

Re: Viv v Warne???
I thought Viv was good against spin and did really well against the Indian spinners.

Re: Viv v Warne???
If WI of the early 80s were to play the strongest Aussie side( 06 ashes winning team) then SK Warne is THE only person who can swing the match towards to AUS.

So are you saying that the Aust team would have won?
(FTR - I don't think the 06 team was the strongest Aust has had for the last decade).

Pretty sure the first team played in at least one of the tests in 84/5.
The Aust team would have played in the Oval test in 2001 (with Bung).

Re: Viv v Warne???
You think Mcgrath of this decade would have let Viv play some of the strokes that he did on ordinary bowlers?

Damn harsh to leave Holding out, but unless you're going to play 5 bowlers what can you do...and then which batsman do you leave out?!
6 Windians v 5 Convicts and of those left out I think the men from the Caribbean look stronger.
Reckon they'd just edge a head-to-head.

Of the 4 openers, Hayden is the last I'd choose - I think. Gotta have a spinner, Pidge is a must - 2nd choice to Macko IMO. So yeah, the team looks right.

Champ, if you're that bothered, read the glossary - it's what it's there for.
Glossary - A glossary is a list of terms in a particular domain of knowledge with the definitions for those terms.
