There was a write in up the Sunday spiv papers on him and how he and Kiddie have the same coach.
Clearly Hughes' manager has been doing some good work.

Actually, apparently he is quite short and stocky.
Not MN's type at all.
Not sure about the blonde bit though.

Re: Leicestershire sign young aussie as overseas pro
He's hardly scored a run so far this season, has he? even the NSW media is being hard pressed to justify why he should be in the Aussie side. Say it quietly, but he may well have been completely worked out by opposing bowlers. And to think that it's all down to Steve Harmison........

Still beats me how he took 2 tons off the saffers in one game with such an obvious technical flaw that we all talked about before the series

It's weird isn't it? You'd watch him, thinking that someone, surely would work out what seemed to be bleeding obvious, and no-one did. I remember telling all my Aussie colleagues that he was going to get bounced constantly in the Ash......er the series about to happen, and no-one seemed remotely worried about it.
Maybe we're all just brilliant, and should be taken on by all international teams on vast salaries?

TBF, I think the Yarps did get on that one quite quick. It was a mix of better form from Hughes and some poor execution by at least two of the SA bowlers.

Well, the general snotty reaction was 'he averages 60 in the Sheffield Pura thingy you know, i'll completely ignore the evidence in front of my eyes'

A reasonable amount of the strinos get their penal chords out, admittedly, but the stark evidence was there to the point that the Saffie commentators were saying "Hmmm, looks to be weak against the short ball".

I remember watching him bat in that series though, and couldn't understand why on earth they didn't repeatedly targed him with the short ball and - more importantly - absolutely deny him room outside off stump. He just kept flaying it through point and gully, and it was bizarre to watch. I know there's always the temptation for us to think we know just as well as anyone else, but even then it seemed just so bleeding obvious. It wasn't being wise after the event.

No, the bouncers he did get, though, were ill directed. It was needed someone not erratic, like Steve Harmison, to get it ironed out properly.
Re: Leicestershire sign young aussie as overseas pro
As I say, though, the bouncers were only one part of it. He was smashing the good length balls away because they were too wide. England starved him of runs by bowling a very tight straight line.

Indeed, SS. Amazing that the Yarps didn't figure it out in the series Hughes scored all those runs (most of 'em through point and cover).
Clearly the England staff did their homework.

Re: Leicestershire sign young aussie as overseas pro
Hughes's first dismissal in that SA series was caught behind flashing at a short wide one. The Saffies decided that it would be a good idea to pack the offside field and try and get him out caught in the slip, gully region by bowling 1-2 feet outside off stump after that, rather than targeting his body. Good offside players always find a way through the field, no matter how packed it is. That's what Hughes did.

Indeed.
Then Fred said "fark that for a lark" and squeezed him up.
Not sure Phews will be back any time soon. Looks pretty ordinary at FC level this season, and his technique is still as rubbish as it was in England.
