Re: Indian team for Ind-SL test series.....
Key to this test series: Ishant Sharma
It will be silly for IND to drop this gem.
Malinga will also be very very important.

cant see where the SL wickets will be coming from. sreesanth will be missed imo. it wont happen, but they should go with 3 pacers with sehwag doing harbys job.

Gambhir, Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman, Karthik+, Kumble*, Harbhajan, Zaheer, RP Singh
Always had a blind spot for Kumble's!
That team has barely changed since the last Aust tour of India in 2004. Surely it's time to move on. Ishant has to play and they should be looking to get Rohit Sharma a gig asap. Their problem in tests going forward is that with so few FC matched being played and players getting their taste of high level cricket in T20, their young guns may not be test ready, hence the need to keep picking the fogies.

My concern exactly.doremi wrote:That's the thing I'm worried about. If he survives Vaas and Malinga he'll score a ton atleast for sure. Would mean he gets in for the Aus series.

Well going by the way the batsmen crumbled in the recent finals "beggars cannot be choosers".

So will you like Jaffer as an opener who is already Lee's bunny, for series against Australia?

I didn't exactly ask for Jaffer's inclusion in the team, did I?

They want Parthiv Patel, but there's hardly any evidence to suggest that he's the answer to India's opening problems. If Gambhir can at least hang around with his Delhi buddy Sehwag, and as always run well between the wickets, then he'll be like Akash Chopra in 2004 but with more shots. Dont see the problem, tbh.

Besides, tests and ODIs are different ball games altogether. If he is bashing opening bowlers in ODIs at absolutely flat decks doesn't automatically mean that he'll do well in tests as well. And so far his test record has not much to show.

Indian Cricket in Crisis.
As for Patel, I don't know whether he's the answer, just from what I've seen of him, I think he'd be better than Gambhir (and Jaffer).

The same goes for Badrinath. I can't know for sure if he'll succeed in the intl. level, but he's done all he can in the domestics, taken every single measly chance he's got. Can't do anything else. But keeps getting ignored for a call-up to the squad.
He'd bring some much wanted stability in the MO in ODIs. Also very likely to take the step up to the next level.

I think I read somewhere that Gambhir had a good record against Sri Lanka.....

Only in ODIs.
In tests he is good only against minnows and hence justifies the title bestowed on him.

Re: Indian team for Ind-SL test series.....
Here are his test averages so far,
v Aus: 2
v B'desh: 87
v Pak: 26
v SA: 43
v SL: 10
v Zim: 72
Which can be summarised as an average of 22 against non minnows and an average of 79 against minnows.
If he still gets called a UMB isn't it justified?

It's not as if he's played 50 tests. How many tests has he played? About 15?

23 innings. Agreed its not a big sample size but like his ODI career it definitely gives you an idea about his batting prowess against minnows.

Malinga seems to have been injured for ages now. Hasn't played for about 7 months.

For Josh
Sachin Tendulkar has been declared fit for the Sri Lanka series. Tendulkar was asked to undergo a fitness test by the BCCI and the master batsman has proved his fitness.
