Michael Paul Vaughan
He's captain until the end of the SA series - What then? He's not scoring the runs we need as a No 3. Is he a good enough captain to get by on the odd decent score here and there?
Zat and Merlin will probably fall off their perch reading this , but at least my observations are based on fact and not knee-jerk dislike.

Re: Michael Paul Vaughan
Isn't the main issue about whether you can afford him as a batsman for the next Ashes tour when you are almost certainly going to have "problems" at 6 and 7.

Dunno, I just think that if we're going to make change in the captaincy, it has to be done now, ie at the end of the SA series.
No good trying to muddle through the winter with a captain who may be a liability with the bat, and then making a change ahead of the Ashes.

Yes - I think that is the crux of it.
I gather the only viable alternatives are Strauss and KP.

Re: Michael Paul Vaughan
england needs a consistent top order....worrying excessively about the tail and picking geese like Prior on the basis that he can hold a bat (if not his tongue) betrays a lack of confidence about the top order's ability to get the job done...
england should demand that all its bowlers put time in the nets practising their batting not just bowling zingers off 20 yards..
all oz bowlers with exception of magoo over ther past decade worked hard at improving their batting...in fact we dropped one of our bowlers after he scored a double ton...i wonder whether england would drop a bloke who was out of form with the ball but making a poultice of runs

Re: Michael Paul Vaughan
Not falling off the perch, I just think a captain has to be able to produce the goods. Period. I don't care how good a 'captain' the bloke is, if he's a batsman, he has to be scoring runs; if he's a bowler, he has to be taking wickets.Basil wrote:He's captain until the end of the SA series - What then?
