That'll be two England captains Graeme Smith's caused to resign. Good effort by the pudgy lad.

I'd like to thank Graeme Smith for winning the Ashes in 2005. Cheers Sniffy....

Seems to me there's a bloke with plenty of county captaincy experience who makes his home at the Oval these days...

Three England captain's scalps in Graeme Smith's bag now. Anyone else?

But Alec Stewart is a bit old for it these days.

It's Ponting's head you want in pole position. Admit it.

Re: Vaughan to stand down as England captain
Inevitable - and long overdue.
Fair do's to Vaughan for walking away rather than hanging around waiting to be pushed.
Have to appreciate his contribution and the impetus and bite he put into the team, with special thanks for Ashes 2005 when everything in Team England was rosy.
Sadly thereafter, the wheels started to come off, ideas looked stale and the impetus
was somehow lost as fewer outsiders got a look-in on selection.
Just heard Colly's resigned as ODI captain.
Is this the start of the "revision of the team" that Miller hinted at before he took over from Gravey?
IMO this could be the start of something big for England - and in a way,
I'm glad we're kicking off afresh i both forms of the game.

Re: Vaughan to stand down as England captain
Interesting that one of the reasons for leaving was that he felt his career could come to an abrupt halt rather than the fact England had lost 3 major series in the last year and the team look uninspired...

Re: Vaughan to stand down as England captain
What prompted Collingwood to resign as well? Is he that deep into Vaughan's pants?
I have visions of Vaughan and Collingwood walking hand in hand down the corridor after the press conference, before spying the disabled toilets, giving each other a knowing glance and a wink and quickly ducking in.

Would generally agree.
Except "due" rather than "long overdue".
And to say that rickety knees played a big part in Mick's not achieving more. I feel his tendency to make a bit too much of himself (e.g. saying "Michael Vaughan") was at least partly due to that regret for the many times he was absent through injury. But you can't make up for the hunger of lost time at the expense of the present, and the future - and it was to his credit he eventually saw that and jumped. I somehow doubt he would have been pushed for a while yet.
