I cant believe Dinesh Karthik has been playing ahead of this guy in the ODI's for the last couple of months.

Re: Rohit Sharma
Neither can I.
For heaven's sake, if you're inducting someone in 13 for a series as long as 7-ODI one, then play him for atleast 1 match, especially when he is an upcoming talent.
PS: India didn't even play Uthappa for whole of the series apart from last 2 ODIs. This shows how weird their thinking was.
Indian selection for whole of ODI series was quite bizarre. Perhaps that took its toll on Dravid?

Re: Rohit Sharma
I think Ganguly needs to go from the ODI team as well. With some young players, India have looked fresh, keen, and a damn good fielding side. Then Ganguly will come back in against Australia and things like running between the wickets and fielding will be awful again. A classic case of a players reputation clouding the fact that he's not the player he was 6-7 years ago, and India will be the poorer for it.
India crashed out of the world cup and then lost the ODI series against England. Ganguly scored too slowly in both events and his fielding and running between the wickets was typically poor. How on earth is he still clinging on when guys like Sharma, Tiwary, and Raina are waiting in the wings, keen as mustard?

Because he is one of the all time greatest ODI players, has been averaging over 50 with the bat since his return and still is one of the six best batsmen in the country?

That's what I mean by past reputations. He WAS one of the greatest ODI bats of all time, but his strike rate since returning to the ODI team is about 68, his fielding seems to get worse by the day, and his running between the wickets remains comical. And India have been losing games with him in the side. If they were winning, then fine, keep him there. But they're not. In 50 over cricket nothing has changed for India since their disastrous world cup campaign. Now we see a group of young Indian players at this T20 tournament running around like tigers and playing excellent, spirited cricket, giving people a glimpse of a potentially excellent future for Indian cricket, and people STILL want to cling on to the (Only ever moderately successful) glory days of the late 90's early 00's? Give me a break.
Ganguly clearly isnt going to quit ODI's so he needs to be pushed.

Re: Rohit Sharma
its a tough one because ganguly provides stability at the top and you need someone to play that role. also, he is still a useful medium pace option. but maybe it is is time to start slowly phasing out the oldies (in ODIs) as india have a decent pool of batsmen now:
sehwag
gambhir
ganguly
tendulkar
kartik
uthappa
dravid
dhoni
yuvraj
rohit sharma

Re: Rohit Sharma
It is clear that none of three senior batsmen will play more than 50% of the coming ODIs. So isn't it okay?

Re: Rohit Sharma
Though on the flip side of Karthik vs Sharma,
Karthik was one of India's best performers in their Test series win in England, and his fantastic (and completely un-Indian like) catch could well have been the difference between a fine win and going home early from another World Cup.

Re: Rohit Sharma
Exactly, though he has dropped a number of sitters the whole summer. But these youngsters need opportunities now. It'll be better if seniors pick and choose their ODIs and play selectively from now on.
The young India is ready to take over, at least in limited over format.

Re: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma's direct hit to get rid of dangerman Kemp was also not exactly Indian like. Okay, Yuvraj does it regularly, but no one else.and his fantastic (and completely un-Indian like)

He didn't do too badly on the seaming track, against vicious new ball, but then SA bowlers didn't bowl that well too.
I think he'll be okay, if not outstanding!!
