Reiffel to spend time in the cooler
Well, more like a series of air-conditioned boxes watching cricket on the Teev...
CricAus statement:
Paul Reiffel added to ICC International Panel
Cricket Australia (CA) today announced former Australian fast-bowler Paul Reiffel would continue his rapid rise through the umpiring ranks after being nominated to join the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) International Panel for season 2008-09.
Reiffel was nominated for the TV role which had previously been filled by former first-class player Rod Tucker. Tucker has been nominated to take the recently retired Peter Parker’s position on the panel in an on-field role.
Both Reiffel and Tucker are original members of the CA Project Panel which commenced in 2002 aimed at fast-tracking first-class players into umpiring.
Reiffel made his first-class umpiring debut in 2004-05, joining the national panel the following season. He recently completed his 20th Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield Match and has officiated in 21 first-class matches overall with a further 20 List A and two KFC Big Bash Twenty20s to his name.
He umpired the Ford Ranger Cup and KFC Twenty20 Big Bash finals in 2006-07 and was TV umpire in the 2007-08 Ford Ranger Cup final.
Cricket Australia General Manager Cricket Michael Brown, said the Project Panel was delivering solid results for Australian cricket.
“The elevation to the ICC’s International Panel for Paul and Rod highlights the success of the fast-track program for former first-class players,” Mr Brown said.
“It also provides another opportunity for players to continue their involvement in elite and international cricket. Congratulations to Paul and Rod on their commitment to umpiring and we look forward to their continued success on the international stage.”
Former Australian fast-bowler Paul Wilson was added to the Project Panel in 2006. He will make his interstate debut today with Paul Reiffel at the WACA in the Ford Ranger Cup match between the Retravision Warriors and the PKF Tasmanian Tigers.
The respective umpire panels are as follows:
ICC Elite Panel (contracted directly to ICC)
Steve DAVIS (SA)
Daryl HARPER (SA)
Simon TAUFEL (NSW)
International Umpires Panel (nominated by CA to the ICC)
Bruce OXENFORD (QLD)
Rodney TUCKER (NSW)
Paul REIFFEL (VIC – TV Umpire)
National Umpires Panel (in alphabetical order)

Ian LOCK (WA)
Mick MARTELL (WA)
Bruce OXENFORD (QLD)

We don't have much of a history of test players becoming umps so you would have to think so
Who is the other one? Blocker?

That's a neat national panel. Only one spiv. Though a bit top heavy with vomits and wozzies.

This FC game was umpired by two test players although one was from England & was to play more tests.

Re: Reiffel to spend time in the cooler
There was a similar situation in this test a few years earlier. Coulthard had actually played for Australia earlier in the series.
