Do the Saffies have a chance to register a series win down
under ?
Saffies are a pretty decent team at the moment and fared a lot better in India earlier this year. But somehow I think that the Aussies still have the wood on them when it comes to the crunch situations.

Their Key players will need to lose weight before they even think about winning down under. The tour of India will be a sufficient wake-up call for the Aussies who will come back hard on they're own soil.
Expect a tightly fought contest in my books...

Brett Lee and Clark will suddenly start bowling well once there is more pace and bounce in the pitch.
Hope Steyn does well...really well.

The Aussie ball doesn't go Irish as readily so our batsmen won't be as big a muppets as they appear in India and England

Brett Lee to me appears to be on the slide. Don't think he will ever get back to the highs he had in the recent past.

My money is on an Aussie win. Too many people are pinning too much on one lost test in India.
But, if the series in India turns into a rout...........

Re: Do the Saffies have a chance to register a series win down
We're much more comfortable on home soil and Lee will suddenly be bowling quickly and with venom again. The absence of a spinner won't be felt as much. Our batting and fielding is superior to the Saffas.
Also Steyn looks stuffed and Morkel is unproven. Ntini is over the hill and they have no spinner. Smith has never made a run against us and has 'wankers' elbow syndrome to contend with anyway.
Hussey will be prolific against them and Hayden probably will regain his touch and charge their inexperienced attack.
Our mojo will be back and Punter knows we can mentally dominate the South Africans. Their team may include quota selections just to top it off.

Yep, just because they're beaten by India in India in a test doesn't mean that they'll lose at home as well.

I reckon AUS will be severely tested in SL.

True, but they're not scheduled to tour SL in near future, I reckon not before '11.

Exactly a lot of water to flow under the proverbial bridge before then. We have done quite well over there in the past.

Re: Do the Saffies have a chance to register a series win down
Its a tough one.
SA is a lot more settled than Australia in tests and will surely give them a run for their money. But SA is always on an upward curve heading to Australia and they end up getting the hiding of their lives.
So i think its best to just wait and see. I think the players should keep their mouths shut, stick to basics and not try and play Australia at their own game - sledging.

If the Saffies play their 1st choice pace attack, India or no India, the Aussie batsmen will have to play out of their skins, otherwise there is a chance of a mauling at home.

Don't read too much into that, a lot of players who previously failed against AUS will now fill their boots now that McGrath & Warne are no longer in the building, just look at;
Shiv, sanga, jaya, dhoni, gambhir in the last yr or so

Most of those guys you mentioned either DID make good runs against Warne and Mcgrath when they were playing, or never faced them in a test match.

An interesting re-read. Some 'predictions' seem superficially to have come seriously unstuck. Woof, woof?

And another thing, why do poms refer to Australia as Down Under, yet not South Africa...?
