I didn't read it. Just the Greek bit. Which set off a chain reaction in my brain which eventually led to the comedic gem that plopped out above.
I'm sure it was interesting. But it's four in the morning and I can't be arsed with interesting right now...
Re: Some sort of sick joke?
Circassians are not Indo-Europeans, though, nor do they speak Turkish or another Altaic language. (Finding out the origins of the confusingly named Caucasian languages would be interesting.) Seems the new research refutes the theories about the Greeks ever being supplanted.*Buckaroo* wrote:mynah wrote:I read an interesting piece recently about the ancient Greeks, and research that was done to determine what had happened to them (and other peoples). Won't bore you with all the genetics stuff, except to say that it was all scientifically sound.
There is a persistent belief, at least in parts of the West, that the sophisticated ancient Greeks were blond, blue-eyed people who were replaced by olive-skinned, dark-haired barbarians at some point in history. The fate of the ancient Greeks is touted as a mystery.
The research showed that there was no mystery at all, except that the above theory came to have such a following: The ancient Greeks probably looked much like the modern Greeks, with mostly dark hair and the occasional blond popping up. It was added that science had never taken the “blond Greek” theory, which is apparently of quite recent origin, seriously.
the original greeks are supposed to have retreated to Macedonia and some of them called Circassians were absorbed by the Turks. This left only a minor population of blonds in ancestors of present Greek population.

This goes against Darwin's theory of evolution as well, when a single female progenitor is responsible for red-haired gene.
She must have seriously been a fun loving chick who liked a lot 'on the side'..... I mean hey .... creating three nations of red heads all by herself can't have given her much time off to do the chores.

Re: Some sort of sick joke?
Her only chore was to spread her seed. I don't remember much about the story but it seems she was interested in only one thing and that is building up an army of Danava to fight a future war with the Arya/Indo-European tribes. The great flood destroyed much of her work and the remaining progeny escaped to higher ground in Europe and near the British Isles.
This is also the reason why the people of Scotland/Ireland/Wales/Basques are fighting against the Milesian/Indo-European/Spaniard/ settlers to this day. The genesis of this fight started from day they were created.

When you take a 100 ft above ground view of things, the perspectives are different.

doremi wrote:Always thought this obsession with being 'fair' a bit weird. Don't think it's a big hit with male Indians, sadly, probably is with the females. Which is strange as the two most beautiful women in India are also dark-ish.
fair and handsome was launched in india because the main product - fair and lovely, which is targetted towards females, was actually being bought by males in equal measure

What current system?
AC ... as opposed to DC.
It's hellish on the hair ... makes it bizarrely frizzy and grossly straight when wired in.

Re: Some sort of sick joke?
whatever, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. someone likes fair skin better its their call. denying someone a job for the colour of their skin would be illegal
the skin colour bias is huge in all non-western societies and western nations too lost it only in the last century. i guess in their case they also lost a lot of the difference in skin colour due to society becoming more egalitarian. in india in particular you have natives who range from pale white to black, so more room for discrimination
no need to fret though. in a few hundred years i am sure all humans will be a particular shade of brown with globalisation accelerating

What you need is healthy glowing skin from a detoxed body. That's not going to happen with some silly cream. As they say 'You can't polish a turd'

If the general trend of this thread is taken into account, Boris Becker must be the pinnacle of creation.
