Meh, 8 overs of darts conceding maybe 20 runs to get to the new ball was the objective, Mick.Mick Sawyer wrote:I'd bowl Roy and Pup for 30 minutes
That's what you want to give'em mate. Centre wicket pratice at the start of the day. You from Launceston originally skull?
What would you suggest? Have Midge and Bung go flat out for 4 overs each and give the new ball to Siddle?

Not necessarily there tail is worse than problematic.
Siddle and Krejza are struggling though.

It was a pretty good ton as well. He scratched and scrapped for an hour then batted quite fluently for 2 hours to bring up a pretty fair ton.

His last 100 runs must have been at close to a run a ball thanks to Capt Idiot's field placings.

What was with kallis going ballistic in the last 15 minutes??? He tore Siddle apart after fending off Johnson and Lee bumpers for half an hour. Just goes to show how aggressively Kallis CAN bat when he wants to.
You've gotta think that Aus are still clear favourites.

It was just crap bowling by Siddle. Hopefully that leaked 30 runs won't be the difference.Henry wrote:What was with kallis going ballistic in the last 15 minutes??? There's been some great test cricket around the world in the last week or so. Really top notch stuff. Even the Snoozers v Windies series has been compelling for the purists.

South Africans slight favourites from here, I reckon. They've set themselves up very nicely to chase this down.

Re: Australia v South Africa, 1st Test, Perth, Dec 17-21
PLAN A
I'd open with Siddle (instructed 'bowl tight, on off stump, don't worry about wickets at this point') and Johnson; maybe for 8 overs. If Siddle bowls well, keep him on right up to the taking of the new ball; if not, give Pup a go at that end. Rotate Johnson out after his initial burst, try JK for a couple, maybe Roy, maybe even a surprise over or two from Katich; try to get through to the Lee-Johnson new ball that way. If even one wicket can be winkled before the new ball, we will have done well. Hope for another with the new ball, then work through the lower 5 and hopefully win by about 50.
PLAN B
Snivel, whinge, blame Merv Hughes.

The pressure has to be on from the outset. You don't recall the debacle from the Indian second innings in the third test? Ponting took the pressure off for the sake of some longer term issue. skull, batsmen are at their most vunerable at the start of an innings or after a break. Bowling two part timers merely allows them settle in in a reduced threat environment with the result that when the new ball arrives there are set and less likely to err.
