Forearm guards
Not many people seem to wear them any more. Personally I would want to have at least three on at once, on both arms. Made of steel. In fact no, made of kevlar.
Still... I swear everyone used to wear them...

Re: Forearm guards
there is far too much protection for the batsmen...
Helmets, pads, thigh pads, all kinds of guards, gloves etc
Not good for cricket.

Re: Forearm guards
its great for cricket. it makes the batsmen play shots they may not consider without adequate protection. anyways personal safety is always paramount, you dont want someone to get an easily avoidable injury

arm guard is ok but most of these batsmen are dressed up like gladiators. There is far too much protection IMO.The One wrote:its great for cricket. it makes the batsmen play shots they may not consider without adequate protection. anyways personal safety is always paramount, you dont want someone to get an easily avoidable injury
This is another reason why the world cricket fell in the shackles of line and length.

faisal, if world cricket fell in the shackles of line and length, why are run rates generally higher now than in the 1980's?

people dont play cricket to get hurt or break bones. if its something that can be avoided then i dont see why anyone should complain

Re: Forearm guards
I was speaking from a bowling point of view. These days the fast bowlers don't try to bowl fast because a) Horrible pitches(even the Perth pitch has really slowed down in recent years) b) Too much ODI cricket c) Added protections for the batsmen which don't allow the bowlers to intimidate the batsmen.lardbucket wrote:faisal, if world cricket fell in the shackles of line and length, why are run rates generally higher now than in the 1980's?
All of this probably causes the bowlers to take an easy way out and fairly quick bowlers like Munaf Patel, Irfan Pathan and M Sami* turn themselves in to medium pacers.
* This loser turned himself from an express fast bowler to a medium pacer.
Obviously i don't want any one to get seriously hurt but the gladiatorial aspect of the game is quite important.

You couldn't legislate against protective equipment, as if someone got a serious injury, they could sue.

Re: Forearm guards
More people have been hit in the head since helmets were introduce that beforehand.
When you're a chance of getting your head cut open you tend to follow the ball a lot more closely.
I'm not saying helmets are bad, it's just a shame that like nearly every change to the laws over the past 80 years it is the batsman who has benefited.

I'd rather see them bunged on the head and face the next delivery then be better at the hook but eat through a straw.

The main thing is to be forewarned.

Four armed guards. Group 4.
They need the four to stop one or two of the many felons.

Because I'm a right pansy, and getting hit by a cricket ball hurts. And last time I played I was at short leg, no protective gear, and the batsman took an almighty swing. Ball went miles over my head... but he let go of the bat and it hit me in the chest. Went down like I was shot.
Hence if I ever play again (unlikely) I intend to wear at least three of everything. Especially three boxes.

Got hit below the knee once fielding at short square - the batsman was so distracted, we ran the fecker out

Yeah, we thought a smashed kneecap was worth it if we got a wicket.
