I'm doing the same, for the same reason. Right now I'm translating an article on things that live in tunnels and look like the willies of aged Scandinavian men with a pair of huge yellow teeth at one end.

Doh, hate to admit it, but I must be growing old, as terms like "hotlink", "free image hosting sites" or "rikki" don't make any sense to me. I just posted the pic the only way I could figure out how, using the tools available on this site...

The image above is hosted on www.stlzoo.org's website, and as such, by posting it here directly (hotlinking) we're using their bandwidth every time the picture loads.

It's just not good internet etiquette.

Save the picture, upload it at, say, imagevenue or picoodle - a free hosting site, then post the picture from that address.

It barely takes an extra 20 seconds to do.

I might be mistaken here but I don't think it is improper etiquette if you hotlink an image directly from big company/an organization's website - they don't have problems with bandwidths. You can, for example, link to images on reuters/any new site/etc. directly. I think the problem comes in when you use images from some other forum on the same level as we are.

Just repeating what I've been told by OUR hosts.

If they don't like it, that's the bottom line.

If they don't like it, why have they provided us with the facilities to do it?
