What would be funny...
would be to declare in the second innings when a bowler is on a hattrick.

LMAO. Really. There'll be cries of disregarding the spirit of the game.

Like someone running themselves out to deny the opposing bowler a 9 fer or 8 fer doesn't happen.

Re: What would be funny...
Didn't the Bangles deliberately bowl a wide to deprive Gibbs of 3 consecutive ODI tons?

It would be funny to chip a ball straight to short mid-off when you're on 99 after making 100 in the first innings and about to break a record?

One of my team mates bowled a wide to stop the oppo getting the official winning run. We were hammered, tbf.

Pretty sure he was on 98. But yeah, harsh - you would have thought Atherton could have just waited for an over.

With one run to win at the end of day 4 and purposely blocking the final couple of deliveries to Force Day 5.

Re: What would be funny...
I think declaring to block a hattrick is more satisfying because it would rattle the opposition.
Atherton/Reiffel ... those were just ****** acts.

Re: What would be funny...
Atherton had crabbed up that innings like a mf. Hick, conversely, was scoring at a good rate through his innings and in the overs prior to the dec. It is likely, then, that he would have brought up the remainder within a few deliveries.
Reiffel's comments on Klingergate at the time were ridiculous. Obviously captains need to keep the goal of the team victory in focus, but this was the first innings: what ultra-accurate fkn cricket calculus does he have that told him that 393 off 120 overs was precisely the right time to declare, rather than say 396 off 121 overs? Goose.
