...for turning his back on the huge cash on offer in the IPL?

Says here that he wants to concentrate on staying fit for Aus. Legend.

------------------------

Mitchell Johnson turns his back on IPL cash

By Peter Lalor
January 10, 2009

MITCHELL Johnson has turned his back on an enormous cash offer to join the Indian Premier League, claiming his first priority is staying fit and healthy for his day job with the Australian team.
The fast bowler was expected to fetch around $800,000 in the IPL auction on February 6 but he revealed to The Weekend Australian that he would not be participating.

Johnson ignored the dash for Indian cash last year and spent his time doing core strength and fitness work at home.

The decision paid off for the quick who shouldered an enormous burden this summer, but made it through nine back-to-back Test matches in the past three-and-a-half months.

etc, etc ....

This is an interesting quote from that article...

"Halvorsen confirmed that Mitchell was turning down a lot of money, but said that if you asked many of the players who participated last year if it had been worth it, they might have second thoughts."

Hmm, I wonder if anyone would have second thoughts about earning $300K - $1.3 M??? Shocked

Aye. And how much money is enough? Midge is probably pulling in a very high 6 figure annual pay packet (if not more).

Good on him.

I'm not going to lie, I hated Midge when he first started out his Career.

I thought his bowling looked wobbly and inconsistent, and he didn't look like he had the temperament to succeed.

But he has proved me wrong.

The bloke knows that hard work - as opposed to strutting around, looking purdy - will pay dividends.

And of course DKL picked him as a 17 year-old. Sage stuff from the original great man.

Pity he only swings the ball once it's 60 overs old and then it's the wrong way.

Look, he bowls some brutal balls and he can even take wickets with shit that is nearly off the cut surface. That really is legendary.

Midge's 2010/2011 Ashes "performance" was legendary. Even got his own song out of it.

That's when you know you've arrived.

Hmm... what do they have in common?

It's almost a national tragedy that AB considers himself a Queenslander. He single handedly triples that state's cricketer's ticker quotient (with the bulk of the rest being provided by Bix).
