Johnson turns up heat on Duminy.
Mitchell Johnson confident of conquering South Africa ace JP Duminy
By Greg Buckle in Potchefstrom, South Africa
February 20, 2009
Mitchell Johnson has dismissed Jean-Paul Duminy three times in three Tests and the Australia pace bowler is confident he can conquer the exciting strokeplayer again in the return series against South Africa.
After claiming a stunning upset 2-1 series win in Australia last month, Graeme Smith's Proteas host Ricky Ponting's side in a three-Test series starting in Johannesburg on February 26.
Duminy was a remarkable success story for South Africa, scoring 246 runs at 61.50 in the series including a match-winning 166 in the second Test in Melbourne in December, his maiden century.
The 24-year-old left-hander only got a game when vice-captain Ashwell Prince broke his thumb before the first Test.
But Duminy looked remarkably comfortable against the No.1-ranked side in Test cricket and looms as a major threat to Australia in the upcoming three-match series.
Johnson, who was Australia's leading wicket-taker against the Proteas with 17 at 25.88, is backing himself to keep Duminy's flashing blade quiet.
"I like bowling to lefties, especially when the ball is a little bit older and starting to maybe reverse a little bit," the left-arm quick told AAP this week.
"Even early on if I'm getting the ball just to go away a little bit, just enough, I like to bowl that as well.
"The times I bowled to Duminy was with the older ball. We set him up in the first game in Perth where we bowled a short ball to him but it didn't seem to work throughout the next few Tests.
"I wouldn't say I'm going to have guys who are going to be my bunnies, like Glenn (McGrath) used to do.
"But I think my plans, if I stick to them, I can do quite well against him in this series."

That was the time he was caught off his shoulder, right?

Duminy was caught off his neck or shoulder for one IIRC in his first innings in Perth.

... seems a perfectly reasonable comment.
I wouldn't want him on the field if he didn't believe that he could get the guy out.

Re: Johnson turns up heat on Duminy.
The headline is misleading. If he'd said something like,"Duminy is a lucky black bastard who can't bat" then the headline might be closer to the actual comments made.
Or maybe even,"Mitchell Johnson could face disciplinary action after locking South African batsman JP Duminy in the hotel sauna"
